09:53 am Apocalypse by katethetigress and ospreyphoto (NC-17)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Dick Grayson (Nightwing)/Tim Drake (Robin)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] katethetigress and [livejournal.com profile] ospreyphoto
Author website: No websites for either that I could find
Why this must be read:

Because it breaks the heroes in just the right way. I...::flails:: This fic takes a scenario that almost occurs in canon all the time (the end of the world as we know it) and wonders what would happen to the characters if the world did end. And the authors have done a fabulous job of breaking our heroes and putting them back together.

(Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jen_in_japan for suggesting this fic.)

11:21 am Small Fandom Month Update!
Wow, so okay, we had a lot of volunteers for fandoms that we've never featured before, so will not be doing any "previously featured" fandoms this round. Maybe we should make this a twice annual event since there is so much interest?

Here are the fandoms we've given the green light to, in no particular order:

Avatar by [livejournal.com profile] xxcreamsodaxx
Dresden Files by [livejournal.com profile] fictionbya
Friday Night Lights by [livejournal.com profile] humming_along

Emergency! by [livejournal.com profile] aesposito
Criminal Minds by [livejournal.com profile] thepouncer
The Persuaders by [livejournal.com profile] joandarck
Numb3rs by [livejournal.com profile] jmtorres

Would anyone be interested in reccing/writing the overview for Prison Break? It seems to have a lot of interest overall, but it just hasn't worked out for one reason or another when I've tapped volunteers.

Thanks!

12:32 pm Third Person by Julad (NC-17)
Third Person by Julad (NC-17)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Author's Website: Julad’s Hideout
Author on LJ: N/A

Why this must be read:

Truth-telling time: I don't like episode-based fics. I find them a little dull to read, and I have a hard time getting through descriptions of incidents I've already seen on the show. So it takes something special to get me to read episode-based fic, and Julad's story is one of those rare cases where it works.

Third Person is set just after "Eclipse" and "I Coulda Been a Defendant" and deals with the fallout from those episodes. Ray Kowalski is still getting used to the lay of the Vecchio land, and he's started to notice some of his new partner's...quirks. Such as the Mountie's tendency to hold conversations with thin air. Because we're seeing everything from Kowalski's perspective, Fraser's conversations with his long-deceased father becomes a confusing game in third-person misdirection as we try to work out who is speaking to whom, and what exactly it is they're saying. Throughout the story we feel Ray's frustration and share his concern that Fraser is certifiable, and when the two end up in the 2-7s supply closet together he forces Fraser into a confession, although it's not quite the one Ray (or we) expected. Julad shifts gears after that to bring Kowalski and Fraser together in a bittersweet moment of recognition, and the whole story works as an intense, thoughtful reconsideration of Fraser from a stranger's point of view.

01:31 pm Up For Anything, Linaerys, NC17

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Abby Sciuto/Tony DiNozzo
Author on LJ: [personal profile] linaerys
Author Website: Linaery's Fan Fiction

Why this must be read:

I read slash for the most part, but when it comes to Abby Sciuto - as the title says - I'm up for anything. She's hot, funny, intelligent, sexy, talented, brash, insightful, kinky, cute...I could go on for days, here... Suffice it to say, she's one of my favorite characters on the show, and I've been happy to read fic pairing her with just about every character on NCIS at one point or other. I especially enjoy reading fic about her and Tony or Gibbs - or even better: her and Tony AND Gibbs. Yum. But don't get your hopes up, this one is just Abby and Tony. Sorry. Doesn't mean it's not hot, though. Because it is.

I love the fact that Abby susses out Tony's weakness for a little kink in his sex, and has no problem supplying him with exactly what he needs. And I like the fact that it makes those of us with Gibbs/DiNozzo fantasies imagine who else Tony might be interested in sharing his ass with... :::blinks::: Sorry - I drifted off there for a moment. I'm back now.  The title is from a line of Tony's in which he says that a tattoo means a girl is "up for anything."  I like the way Linaerys turns that back on Tony.

Abby and Tony work late one night.   Abby has a suggestion, and Tony is eager to agree.

02:20 pm An Excuse, The Tenth Muse, NC17

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Jethro Gibbs/Tony DiNozzo
Author on LJ: [profile] slashy_me
Author Website: The Tenth Muse Fan Fiction

Why this must be read:

I have a thing for Tony on top. I usually think he's the perfect bottom, but I love how sure he is of himself in a sexual situation, and I just know he's good in bed. I get the feeling he knows how to please his partners. So when I find a story with Tony topping Gibbs and being a confident, talented and sensual lover, it makes me smile. This story made me smile.

It's pure PWP, not hardly even enough of a plot to describe it - but it works perfectly just the way it is.  It's in the Instant Gratification section of her website - where she keeps the PWPs.   I first found it at  the no longer updated [profile] sixtysecondporn, and I think the others in this section may have all come from that comm, as well.  And speaking of: The Car is another from that section that has Tony topping Gibbs - it's not my rec, but it's still hot.  As are all the fics in that section.  You might want to check them all out...

Alcohol is a great excuse for letting go.

03:38 pm Promises, Kelly Girl, NC17

Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Jethro Gibbs/Tony DiNozzo
Author on LJ: [personal profile] kelly_girl
Author Website: Kellygirl at MTAC

Why this must be read:

Yet another really good NCIS writer that's got a talent for PWPs - although I'm not sure if this exactly qualifies as simply a PWP. Promises is a very hot fic - don't get me wrong - but it's also got a fair amount of angst in it, which is not usually part of the whole Porn Without Plot senario. I like the fact that it deals with Tony's sexuality - his discomfort and shame over having sex with Gibbs waring with his pleasure in what they do together and his feelings for Gibbs. But it leaves you content in the end, so despite the angst, this story always makes me feel good.

Gibbs decides he's had enough of Tony's dismissal of what they do together and he tries to convince Tony to admit what he really wants.  Fortunately for Tony, at least one of them has his head screwed on right.

05:12 pm Nascent by Kate Andrews (NC-17)
Fandom: HEROES
Pairing: Peter/Claire
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] svilleficrecs
Author Website: Kate Andrews's fic at del.icio.us
Why this must be read:

I'm not a Peter/Claire shipper (nor do I read much het), but this fic sells me on their love as romantic and sexual in a way that I think no other story could.

Above all, this is a carnal story, as Claire's power, which Peter shares, is carnal. Taking her starting point in the ruthlessly physical process of regeneration, Kate Andrews paints a vivid, detailed, almost shockingly sensual image of Peter's lust for Claire and the mingled feelings of love and guilt, of need and attempted denial that go with it. The result is stunningly beautiful and achieves a level of intensity that is astounding. And did I mention how hot it is?

08:55 pm General Jack: Year One by flatkatsi (K-K+)
Fandom: STARGATE SG1
Pairing: gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] flatkatsi
Author Website: flatkatsi at Incoming Wormhole
Why this must be read:

It was the shot that changed everything.
Changed our little secret world.
Changed how we acted, how we thought.
Changed the way that others saw me.
Changed how I saw myself.
It changed everything.

This is the Jack we all know, smarter than he looks, a straight talker, not a politician.

If I could rec this story without giving away the title, I would because all readers should walk into this story without an idea of what the shot in the quote meant. Suffice it to say, this was written before Season Eight.

Well written, this story offers some unique insights into the Character of Jack O'Neill. It contains more than enough of your daily requirements of whump and angst, but it is offset by some great team and humour scenes.

Read it and enjoy. Then go read the rest of her stories.

11:36 pm Negotiations by Lacey McBain (NC17)
Fandom: STARGATE: ATLANTIS
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] laceymcbain
Author Website: Lacey McBain's Fan Fiction Library
Why this must be read: Lacey McBain is a terrific writer. In this story, she takes a new approach to the 'Aliens Made Them Do It' trope. What if they only do it when aliens make them? What if that's not enough for one of them?
