"A Fair(y) Use Tale" is not actually a fanvid, but rather a vid about fanvids that uses the techniques of fanvids. This was made as part of Stanford's Fair Use project, and it uses clips from Disney to talk about Copyright. I hesitated for a long time before deciding to rec this on the Van, but the thing that swayed me in the end is that I find it really fascinating to see how people talk about fandom with their Real World hats on, and I figured that some of you might feel that way too. And yeah, this is political, but it's also surprisingly fannish: the echoes of fanvids are all the way through this, as you'll see even more clearly once I start reccing the multi-fandom vids that are going to finish up the rest of the drive. Yes, darthfi is a friend of mine, and yes we write together occasionally. But going back to the dark!fic I couldn't not rec one of hers. So what can I say about Fi? Fi has a flair for inventiveness and a real cruel streak. She loves toying with her readers almost as much as the characters themselves. All of which leads to some superb fic, although she doesn't write in the Life on Mars fandom solo as much as she should. This trilogy of fic is set after the end of the second series. This story is considered a classic in that genre. It has many sequals and spin-offs, but this is the original (and best, IMHO). FYI, Kenda's writing is controversial among some in the fandom, and she uses some disturbing themes and imagery. If you are put off by the idea of attacks on children, this is not the story for you. It's also in kind a Supernaturnal crossover but more than anything it's about how Denny Duquette came to be and how Izzie helped shape him. It's a must read for anyone who loved Denny or loves the show. Excerpt: Denny is ten years younger than you and losing the beard is just the touch, and if you've got to lose that to make yourself younger, then shedding that dark heavy sadness that drapes your eyes like velvet curtains is a must, too, while you're at it. You crack jokes more. You smile. You let yourself flirt without guilt for the first time in years.
The intern looks like Mary when she tilts her head just so and grins at you, and that helps.
