02:52 pm Thy Vigils Keep, by Queenofthorns (R)
Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (NEW)
Pairing: Dualla/Billy, Dualla/Lee
Length: 6,000 words
Author on LJ: [personal profile] queenofthorns
Author Website: fic listed here
Why this must be read:I love fic that fleshes out the characters who don't get as much development in canon, and I also love fic that fills in the gaps in characterization that canon sometimes leaves. This does both. It gives us a clear look at Anastasia Dualla; who she was before the war, her hopes, strengths and failings afterwards. It's a sympathetic and insightful character study that presents Dee as a three-dimensional person, and not simply a romantic foil. Apart from that, it's just a beautifully written story.

If there are gods, Dee thinks, then they’re cruel. Did Zeus finger his bolts of lightning, unused, and did Hera smile as the Cylons rained destruction on mankind? Or perhaps the gods tried and failed to save their children – Apollo’s arms too weak to shield them, Artemis’ aim no longer true.

Weak or cruel, it doesn’t matter. The gods are dead.

She still prays, though, because there’s nothing to replace them.

04:33 pm How to Be a Rock Star, by Patrick M. Stump, Aged Seventeen by Trixiesfic (NC-17)
Baaaaaby Patrick! (Yes, it's spelled the same as baaaaaby animals). I don't want to be misleading, though, so let me state it upfront. This story is not about cute. It is about hot. This is almost-a-virgin seventeen-year-old Patrick, slightly older Pete, and a girl. In a van. A VAAAAAN. I'm a bit obsessed.

Fandom: Bandom (FOB-centric)
Pairing: Patrick/OFC, Pete/OFC, Pete/Patrick, ish.
Length: 2,800~
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] trixiesfic
Author Website: http://trixie.fangirlz.net/

Why this must be read: I think one of the greatest things about baaaaaby!Patrick stories is that he's always portrayed as so self-assured, even when he's not, and his relationship with Pete upends the age dynamic (except when it doesn't) as they seem to have been bickering like they're 65 since they first met.

Pete’s got his shirt off and his jeans still unbuttoned and he’s sprawled out on the bench seat, one leg along the back, the other propped up on a merch box, and Riley’s in front of him, legs stretched on top of his and she’s still fully dressed, except presumably under her skirt. Pete’s got one hand on her breast, under her t-shirt, and he’s licking at her throat, but he’s watching Patrick and shit, Patrick has no fucking clue what to do here.

“Um, I don’t,” Patrick mutters, laying his hand carefully on her thigh. Riley wraps a hand around his neck and pulls him toward her, pushing her skirt up with her other hand as she does, baring herself to him.

“Let the force be your guide,” Pete says with a deep voice and Patrick laughs and then laughs harder when he and Riley both say, “shut up, Pete,” at the same time.

I wouldn't like to dictate anyone's reading experience, of course, but if it isn't too far beyond my remit here, I'd perhaps recommend you google a couple of Patrick picspams? Maybe take a quick look at his mouth? Yeah.

Why I'm not posting much these days? You can find a lengthy rant about that in my journal.... Damn you, real life, damn you!

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 36k
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: http://www.mediafans.org/valentin/

Why this must be read:  Because amnesiac!Blair is a good thing!

I know that this is the second "Blair loses his memory" fic in a row.... but it's just so cute. Like, really really cute. And funny. And cute. Oh, just go and read it.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair, past Jim/Carolyn
Length: novel-length
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: Brook Henson's Site and Brook Henson's Yahoo Group (you'll have to join)

Why this must be read: Because it's the best AU fic ever!

Seriously, when I say it's the best, I really mean the BEST.

AUs are tricky business and usually I don't like them very much. It is so hard to transfer the concept of a show, its  characters and the special essence - its spirit - into something different and still keep it the same.... if you know what I mean. This story does it amazingly well.

This story is well-researched, well written and oozes love for the show. The main focus are still Jim's senses and Blair as his guide. The way the author describes Jim's view of the world is fantastic. And the characters are still themselves: Jim's fierce protectiveness, Blair's urge to understand and explore.... you'll find it all.

I love this story so much that it hurts (in a really good way).

06:13 pm The Purchase by Ryu~Itsutsu & Cassandra (NC-17)
Fandom:  Smallville
Pairing:  Clark/Lex
Length:  Approx. 10,900 words
Authors on LJ:  [profile] ryui[personal profile] cassiopeia13
Authors' website:  Fading Madness Productions - this site has been down for a while, however, this Smallville page is open and you can get to other places on the website from here, but you can't tell what you have clicked on until the page opens.  You will see what I mean if you check it out.

Why this must be read:

I have to admit, this one is pure indulgence on my part.  I love stories about Clark and Lex, set in the early days of the show.  The days that Clark blushed and stammered around Lex and Lex enjoyed teasing him.  This story has a lot of all of that.  In fact it is one long tease and blush fest until the sixth part, then it becomes a little bit more.

Authors' summary:  Clark needs a bit of money, and finds a summer job at a gas station.  Little does he know that Lex is going to show up daily to make a certain purchase.

The Purchase - part one - each part is linked at the bottom of the previous part.

07:37 pm Just That and Paper Cranes by darkeyedwolf (PG13)
Fandom: Death Note
Pairing: L/Light
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] darkeyedwolf
Author Website: Fic tag at Author’s Journal
Why this must be read: The author said that this was an experiment to see if it was possible to put L and Light together and not have it be angst. And then she succeeded perfectly!

This fic was filled with insights into the characters as they were when they weren’t trying to kill each other. It’s a fun, enjoyable read that perfectly captures what I love about L/Light.

Fandom: Death Note
Pairing: Light/Misa, Light/Takada, implied L/Light
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] feast
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read: This fic is set post series and it is an excellent look at the destruction he left in his wake. The people who cared about him, in whatever ways, have to pick up the pieces.

Only, how do you pick up the pieces after you loved Kira?

Told in second person (don’t run away!), this nameless speaker brutally details life after Light… life after Kira.

Author's Summary: Everyone and the end.

Fandom: BOONDOCK SAINTS
Pairing: Duffy/Smecker/Tie
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dien
Author Website: BDS tag at author's journal
Why this must be read: OMG, hot. HOT HOT HOT.

Also, Smecker + Duffy + tie = my new OT3. *grins*

Other reasons to read this include the incredible Smecker characterization, the brilliant Duffy insights, and the abuse of an innocent silk tie.

But mostly, the HOT.

Fandom: BOONDOCK SAINTS
Pairing: None, Gen.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tailwind

Why this must be read: This is an interesting look at what might have been before the movie began. The lives the brothers led is shrouded in mystery, and this is one possible explanation for how they became the men they became – not the Saints, but the brothers, the friends, the linguists, the scholars, the men themselves.
