Vidder: DiNozzo87 Musical artist: Chris Tomlin Pairing: Tony and the Team of NCIS. Vidder on LJ: N/A Vidder's website: www.youtube.com/user/DiNozzo87 Why this vid kicks ass: The video has images of Tony and the team at some of their hardest moments faced. I think the video is well paced and the song suits, actually it more than suits any and all of the teams harshest moments seen throughout the show. Follow the link for more. ( See Me. )

Fandom: NCIS Pairing: Tim/Tony friendship Author on LJ: bananacosmic Length: 1200 Author website: CosmicUniverse.netWhy this should be read:
I have read alot of BC's fics, most of them all very heart wrenching and riveting. But none have been able to capture the mind and heart and ask some very real questions of how close can two friends be. When I chose to rec this author I found it tough b/c there are so many fics of great quality but this one is one of the best. It allows the reader inside the mind of Tim as he has to watch Tony suffer the ravages of the plague. It is a great character read for such a simply complex man.

Fandom: NARUTO Pairing: Kakashi/Gai Author on LJ: Mal's ChantsLength: 20,000 words Author website: Hidden VillageWhy this must be read:For my last few recs, I must return to the lady who brought me to the dance, as it were, Maldoror. I stumbled over one of her early fics right after discovering the show and never recovered. And this is the fic that made me fall in love with Kakashi & Gai, Break in the Routine. Warning: Don't be drinking anything when reading the first chapter. Come on, admit it, you've thought about it -- all those challenges from Gai. All those forfeits. The eternal rivals. The possibilities are endless. And, unfortunately, too many authors have written this scenario. But here's the one that you've been waiting for. Perfectly paced and so in-character you're wondering where's the episode/manga. All the sly references to Anko, Ibiki, Genma, and the adults of the Leaf Village will leave you grinning. Welcome to Break in the Routine. If you haven't tried this pairing before, you're in for a surprise. And if this has got you in the mood for some Kakashi/Gai, try Equals/Opposites: More Than Rivals for some other good recs. I've given you a lot of different links to the same fic as she puts her work in many places. Hope it gives you the chance to read a variety. Please don't forget to give the author feedback on her LJ. Maybe we could get more. Enjoy!

Ah, another month come and gone. One last rec before handing the keys over to the next driver! Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Jim/Blair Length: short: ~ 800 words Author on LJ: carodee Author Website: http://carodee.popullus.net/ Why this must be read: It’s new and it’s smutty. A great way to finish out the month. Although this isn’t a Moonridge offering, it’s two degrees of separation. Caro’s Moonridge prompt inspired two fic I recced this month. She also contributed to and organized the Donate An Orgasm For Moonridge anthology, from which I recced another story. *And* she contributed a story to the My Mongoose Ezine Moonridge Edition (yep, recced one from there as well!) So, I was perusing her site, looking for the links to those prison fic. Lo, and behold, there was this lovely little (in her words) smutfic. Too short to give you a quote, suffice to say that Jim has a thing for Blair’s. . . Velcro I hope you enjoy this and the other recs; thanks to all who commented and encouraged. Cheers until the next time, and don’t forget to send feedback!

Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Inara, Zoe Length: c 1500 words Author on LJ: prehistoric_sea Author Website: handy fic index Why this must be read: This was written for the apocalyptothon, with all that that implies - but it isn't unnecessarily grim, for a story which therefore takes the end of the world as its founding premise. It is a very steady look at choices made and consequences unflinchingly accepted, about the very different expectations and experiences Zoe and Inara might have during a war, and how they'd both square up to them regardless. \ Fandom: NCIS Pairing: Tony/Gibbs Length: A lot of words and chapters Author on LJ: N/A??Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/581224/
Why this fic must be read: For my last fic rec of the month I was hard up trying to pick and choose. It landed b/n another depressing disease based fic by Lila or an AU based fic by Eeon & K. But due to my mood I had to choose Angels because it's one of those fics that treat the reality of being chronically ill with such candor and realistic imagery that it hurts to read and breathe at the same time.
The plot is lengthy and very detail oriented. There are alot of good character insights and it gives the reader something new that most authors dread exploring. As authors it seems we can kill characters with ease but having them live with such harrowing consequences is harder than all get out. I attribute that to our belief in escapism and our goals when reading fanfic or literature in general.
The fic gives Tony and Gibbs plenty of life to suffer with and plenty of family to enjoy and hate at times. Despite Tony having to live with something millions face everyday there is a happy ending in sight for the couple and the team.
To Read and Cry Over:
www.squidge.org/peja/cgi-bin/viewstory.php And for more recs and fanfic goodies feel free to explore my memories where I have any and all fics that catch my attention. One day I might mimic Donutsweeper and actually compile a best of list to appease the random stopperbyers(sp lol)...Have a great Feb.!

Fandom: HIGHLANDER Pairing: Duncan/Methos Length: about 8000 words Author Website: AristideWhy this must be read:For my final recommendation this month, I'm choosing one of my all time favorite stories in any fandom ever, one that I read over and over again all the time. Aristide is well known in Highlander fandom, but I feel this story is usually overlooked for her other stories, all of which are fabulous, but this one has always been the one that resonates with me the most in its quietly wistful, humorous, blisteringly hot, and completely in-character, first-time fumblings of Duncan and Methos healing their bruised relationship after stating a simple but all important declaration. Enjoy! ( An excerpt )The Declaration

Vidder: Shati Musical artist: Imani Coppola Pairing: Zoe Vidder on LJ: shatiVidder's website: Juniper's EdgesWhy this vid kicks ass: Someone vidded Zoe! More to the point, she vidded Zoe really well. Great song choice, and pacy, witty cutting, with Zoe kept squarely the focus of the storytelling. The only reason that this isn't my ideal Zoe vid is because that only exists in the AU where there is ample footage to vid a Zoe-centric vid from the series alone. But, back in the real world, this is a wonderful celebration of Zoe's awesomeness - and probably the opposite of a contructed reality vid, since it is very embedded in the text of its source - knowing the scenes where the individual clips are lifted from adds another layer into the vid, and drives the storytelling. Which is not to say that it in any way fails as a straightforward celebration of ass-kicking glory. Legend of a Cowgirl

Fandom: SHERLOCK HOLMES Pairing: Gen Length: 32,659 words Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: archived on fanfiction.net
Why this must be read: I enjoy Westron Wynde's writing. It's usually a little tongue-in-cheek but faithful to the canon.
This case is based on one of those hints Watson so tantalizingly throws out in his stories, although he does actually appear in this tale as it is one of Sherlock's first times using his talents for money.
An old school friend has asked Holmes to determine why his fellow musical hall performers are perishing at an alarmingly high rate - and all from apparent accidents from their act. The knife thrower has been hit with a knife; the magician is found with his pet snake wrapped around him, and so forth. Holmes only agrees to help as he needs money; he has no intent of becoming a detective at this point. Then Lestrade is sent to investigate one death and Holmes realizes that he either has to solve the crime or be charged with it.

Fandom: SHERLOCK HOLMES Pairing: Holmes/Watson Length: 12,000 words Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: The Seventeenth Step
My last entry for the Sherlock Holmes van this month. It's been fun. I apologize for getting such a slow start (there were these holidays you see...).
I've saved the best for last.
Why this must be read: I was first attracted to the story because Katie wrote it in Victorian style which made me feel that I was reading canon. But I found myself deeply engrossed in it and I couldn't even stop reading long enough to post a review.
Holmes has returned from Reichenbach Falls, but Watson can not return to Holmes or even forgive him for pretending to be dead. Holmes wants him to return to 221B Baker Street and to resume their love affair but the most Watson can do is assist on some cases. Then Lestrade tells him he has to talk to Holmes about something.
I never thought of Lestrade as an agent between the two men, but it works. The whole conversation is just fascinating, as first Watson finally reveals why he is so hurt and then Lestrade drops some very tantalizing clues.

My last recommendation for the month! Thanks so much for coming along with me, I had a lot of fun! Fandom: DC COMICS Pairing: Clark/Bruce, with appearances by Arthur, Dick, Lois, Lex, Barbara, Cass, Tim, and other DC characters. Length: Fourteen chapters, about 54,000 words total Author on LJ: icarus_chainedAuthor Website: N/A Why this must be read:Three major reasons why I'm thrilled to recommend this story--I saved it for last because I'm just so darn happy to have a chance to tell people about it: 1. If you like Steampunk and world-building. Icarus creates a steampunk-influenced world in which the major DC cities are flying cities. Metropolis and Gotham are characters in their own right here, beautiful and majestic and beloved. She also captures the tone of steampunk--the brass and gears and mahogany and glass--with beautiful delicacy. 2. The supporting characters. Clark and Bruce are the main characters, but if you love any of the characters listed above you'll love this story. Lois is brilliant and awesome and fierce, Dick and Tim and Cass glorious, and Lex a titanic force, flawed and grand. 3. The plot. Icarus tells a crackling story, filled with gigantic battles and action sequences--the visuals she calls up are much like a Hayao Miyazaki movie, full of swooping motion and intensity. In terms of sheer storytelling it's an awesome ride. Gotham was a new City, the Black Lady. Or rather, a very old city that no-one had seen for nigh on twenty years, after she had disappeared during the Great Upheaval, and never been seen again. Then, some three years ago, she'd come back. Not that people had known her for who she was, at first. It had been rumours. The dark City haunting the Nightside, chasing midnight across the dunes of Earth, following the paths of the stars over the waves. The Midnight Wind, crewed by the damned. And then some poor bastard on a cargosailer off the London flightpath had run into her in the dimness, all ablaze with gaslight stars, her seeker spots great white beams of light prowling over the European dystopia, and at her heart, the unmistakable gothic outline of an ediface from the planet's past. Wayne Tower, flying the black emblem of the Bat.
Gotham had come home, from Hell or Hades or wherever she'd been. And now she ruled the Nightside, even as Metropolis held sway over the daylight paths. And sooner or later, they'd had to meet. The Black Lady and the Shining City.Chapter One of "The Wind at Midnight"

Well, it's come at last. It's my final day as driver for Man from UNCLE on Crack Van. It's been a lot of fun and a major challenge (We are one prolific fandom.) I owe a huge debt of gratitude to georgiesmith for her list of stories that have been recced in the past. So here is my last rec for January. I now turn over the wheel to someone else. Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin Length: This one's in four parts. Author on LJ: yes ladyra Author Website: http://www.dwordslist.net/rariindex.htmlWhy this must be read: We've all had moments of deja vu in our lives. RAC gives Napoleon whole days of deja vu. Is Napoleon going insane? This is one of those stories that you keep reading to find out what happens next. It's that engaging. Terrific story. Fandom: TORCHWOOD Pairings: Jack/Ianto, Jack/Ianto/OFC, Jack/Rose, Jack/Nine, Ianto/Lisa, Ianto/OFCs Length: Gargantuan (currently 10 installments/26 LJ entries) Warnings: angst, BDSM, breathplay, d/s, dp, genderfuck, het, hurt/comfort, recreational intoxication, slash, snuff, threesome, voyeurism Authors on LJ: rm, kalichanAuthor Websites: unknown Why this must be read: This is how it starts: "You called, sir?" Ianto said, walking into Jack's office. "Or rather, you bellowed? We do have comlinks for....oh. You've...ah...lost your clothes, I see. Well, foreplay not quite dead, just on the critical list." You know that old Chinese aphorism, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”? When Ianto crosses the threshold of Jack’s office, he and Jack embark on a journey that stretches through season two; makes an exploratory foray into season three; digresses into Jack’s time on the TARDIS, Ianto’s gap year, and the distant future; and encompasses the full spectrum of human feeling, the nature of memory, life, death, and evolution (both physical and spiritual). Above all, this is a story about love in its various manifestations; not just the love between Jack and Ianto, but between all the members of Torchwood Three, and for their friends and comrades, and those they are sworn to protect ... and, well, ultimately for life in all its forms, even when it hurts, even when it ends. If I had to sum up this story in one word, it would be epic. Not just in terms of its length, but in the amount of thought that the authors have put into every aspect. It’s like one of those gigantic altarpieces in which the smallest details have been painted with a brush made from a single mouse hair. You could go blind reading this thing. (I’m not just talking about the length here — there is a lot of grade A porn throughout.) Lest you find the sheer scale daunting, I hasten to add that each installment can be read as a self-contained story ... but I have trouble believing that anybody could stop at just one. I Had No Idea I Had Been Traveling (leads to tagged entries in kali’s journal) Note: I am bending the no-WIP rule a bit, since as of the time of this rec the authors were planning one more installment in the main arc. Assuming it is tagged like the rest of the series, it will be accessible through the above link.

Fandom: NARUTO Pairing: Kakashi/Gai Author on LJ: Mal's ChantsLength: 20,000 words Author website: Hidden VillageWhy this must be read: From one extreme to the other, Maldoror does an incredible job of looking inside the life of the shinobi of the Hidden Leaf Village. Break in the Routine was the fic that got me hooked on the Kakashi/Gai pairing. Descent was the story that captured who they were behind the masks both wear. If you're expecting a story like my last rec, this ain't it. Instead, take a look at a totally different facet of Kakashi & Gai. You tell me who's real and who's wearing a mask. Descent

Fandom: TORCHWOOD Pairings: Jack/Ianto Length: Teensy Warnings: office supplies pr0n Authors on LJ: moreblissAuthor Website: unknown Why this must be read: Well, my joyride in the Torchwood SUV is about over. It’s been a total blast, and I hope you’ve enjoyed my recs. So, in keeping with my tradition of closing with a humorous (and, if possible, meta-ish) piece...
You know, I thought torch_sticks was as minimalist as fanfic could get. Then I saw this: ( This is Jack ... He’s a bit bent. )The author didn’t assign a rating, and I dithered a lot before settling on one. I mean, they’re f—ing paperclips. *hands* Stationery Hub

Last rec of the month, thanks for letting me fill your mailbox. I hope you have enjoyed this as much as I have. Pairing: Gaara/Lee Author on LJ: Mal's ChantsLength: approx. 9300 words/13000 words Author website: Hidden Village Why this must be read:As my first rec was of the delightful epic, Diplomatic Relations Trilogy by Maldoror so my final recs must be the sequels, Chicken Soup for the Demonic Soul and Missing. If you like this pairing, you will be delighted by the very different fics taking place in the DP universe. Chicken Soup for the Demonic Soul is a lovely inside view of Gaara as Big Heart, Drunken Fist was for Lee. And like the earlier fic, this story is just as much about Suna's view of a character. While Gaara may still see himself as a monster, Suna's view of their Kazekage has changed. Of course, that doesn't mean not taking precautions. A more sober story, Missing takes on hard truths that occur when 2 warriors marry. Touched on briefly at the end of Diplomatic Relations, Missing deals with the separations and loss that can happen as shinobi in the Naruto Universe. Again, I cannot stress if you like a story in any fandom, please drop the author a line. Feedback is the best encouragement an author receives.

Hey, guys. This is my last rec for this month. Thank you for the opportunity to present some of my favorite fics to the community, and I'm looking forward to doing this again at a later date. And now, I finish with the same author I started with. Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Chloe/Clark; with minor mentions of Chloe/Jimmy Length: novella length Author on LJ: ellyfanfictionAuthor Website: Elly's FanfictionWhy this must be read: This particular story is a smutty AU take on the final scene of the season six episode Static. What starts out as a scene with Chloe comforting her best friend after the horrific sights he'd seen in the episode's events, ultimately ends up with Clark's anxiety and fear turning into desire, passion, and a lot more for his best friend. The smut in this particular story is, well, super, really, and some of the best I've read. And the best part is a single moment, one single tender moment, one that touches me, and almost makes me cry. As always, Elly's writing is fantastic, and it's just a good story all around. ( And now, an excerpt. )Let Me In

Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Pairing: genfic, Buffy/Spike Length: 180,000 plus words. Author on LJ: anaross Author Website: LJ MemoriesWhy this must be read: Alternate season 5 of "Angel": Powers That Be bring Spike back under the condition that he is bound to Angel to help him on his journey. There is a secret clause in the contract: Spike shouldn't see Buffy (while she has no desire to comply). Have Powers That Be sent Spike to Los-Angeles only to torture Angel? Or maybe their goal is to disclose Senior Partners manipulations and to bring Connor back? Each chapter is written on behalf of different character and their tales interweave as they put together fragments of a conspiracy. Long Day's Journey is a superb character study of all Angelverse regulars; it's a well-plotted detective investigation as various characters try to find out who Connor is and why he's so important to Angel's journey; and, last but not least, it's a poignantly beautiful love story in which Buffy and Spike switch their traditional roles: he becomes unattainable and Buffy has to fight for her love. My last recommendation for this turn. It was a really hard choice (some of my favorites are work in progress) and sorry if I recced quite only Winters/Nixon, but, well, they are the main couple in this fandom. And I tried to rec "recent" works. See you around :) Fandom: BAND OF BROTHERS Pairing: Winters/Nixon Length: 58k Author on LJ: - Author Website: hosted on the keikotoriumWhy this must be read: if you watched emo!Winters alone in Paris, you know who was missing in it. This fic make everything right. Paris was a beautiful, lively city, but he found it overpowering and didn’t know quite what to think of it all, or what to do with himself. [...] French was such a beautiful language, and it didn’t really matter that he couldn’t understand anything. It had a very different cadence from English; its words sounded so much more melodic and graceful. And it brought back Nix’s D-Day briefing, and the way the Normandy town names had rolled elegantly off his tongue. The memory sent a pang through him, and he suddenly, selfishly, wished Nix were there. They could have explored the city together, and Nix could have shown him his favorite places. But Nix wasn’t there. He was on his way back to Aldbourne, to someone else, and he carefully diverted his thoughts away from that fact, and the painful void it left in his stomach.Scars and Souvenirs
