Fandom: HEROES Pairing: Mohinder/Sylar Length: Epic Author on LJ: aurillyAuthor Website: Fic MasterlistWhy this must be read:I'm very picky when it comes to my Mylar fic. I tend to shy away from fluff, and pretty much any fic in which Sylar goes by Gabriel. With that in mind, there is no logical reason why I should love Starting Over as much as I do. It's not really fluff, there's plenty of angst, but a fic where Gabriel is trying to live a normal life while besotted with Mohinder isn't something I shouldn't normally like. Aurilly simply has a way with this type of fic. The characterization is fantastic, and it's not just the main boys - Peter's appearances make me especially happy, Molly is fantastic, and more! Aurilly's summary says this: What would have happened if Sylar had gotten "better" during his time in the Mexican facility? Angsty but cute Mylar in alternating first-person POVs. It's basically an ode to NYC. But it's more than that. Mohinder and Sylar go on a journey, the characters evolving in a way that is genuine and heart-felt. I dare you not to love it. Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: Napoleon Solo / Illya Kuryakin Length: approximately 1,200 words Author on LJ: nickovetch Author Website: She has her own page on File 40 and several stories on Geocities which, for the moment, can be found through The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Fan Fiction DatabaseWhy this must be read: Nickovetch has a lovely way with words and it is in this story, told from Napoleon's delirious POV, that it is never more in evidence. Her prose flows languidly as Napoleon lays bleeding on an unknown street in an unknown city attempting to find warmth once more as he falls towards darkness. If you're not crying or at least sniffling by the end of this one, well, there's just no hope for you. Here's the opening paragraph: Odd how the muzzle of his Special felt so cold against his cheek. Odd because he was slowly bleeding to death and felt half-frozen anyway. Why should the familiar steel feel that way to him? He shook his dark head groggily and tried to remember what he was waiting for. Something… no, wait, that wasn’t right. Someone. He could vaguely recall the form in his mind’s eye, specter-like in his twilight existence. Warm-Blooded

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH Pairing: none hetLength: 49,563 words Author on LJ: not known Author Website: HEREWhy this must be read: It's one unusually intense story – there is some mystery, there is a lot of hurt and almost no comfort, it's as angsty as you can imagine and most of all – it's not easy to read (and I like such stories). Some people are soul bonded. What happens when the bond is broken? Is it true that there are some things you never forget? Hutch was screaming.
He had known pain before. He had survived a car crash, lying pinned beneath it for hours on end, his leg crushed underneath. He had survived the plague. He had taken a bullet or two in his younger years, and he had even survived the pains of withdrawal.
But it was nothing like this.
He had dropped the Magnum as he curled in on himself in shock. He didn’t even feel the wounds caused by the bullets which had hit him, one in the left shoulder and one in his left upper arm. The agonizing pain resonating from within the depth of his soul radiated outward like a solar flare, the flaming, searing fire, ripping him apart.
He didn’t understand what was happening. He hadn’t even known a depth like that existed within him. All he knew was that he felt ripped... torn apart from the inside. And he had no idea how to quell the overwhelming agony of the ruptured bond which had existed between them.
So all he could do was scream. Soul Bonded

Fandom: Tour of Duty Characters: Lt Myron Goldman, Sgt Zeke Anderson Length: 1416 words Author on LJ: No LJ Author Website: Notes From the UndergroundWhy this is a must read: Meryn writes a story that explores the enormous changes that Lt Goldman has undergone from the time he arrived in Vietnam as a 21-year-old green, by-the-book lieutenant to a scant 18 months later, now a well-seasoned leader of a special forces unit. Yes, he’s emotionally fragile and battered, but in the field he’s an utterly capable soldier. Meryn shows Goldman’s thoughts following a mission that forced him to make some hard choices as he struggled to keep a balance between protecting his men and holding on to his humanity. Sgt Anderson shows up just in time to provide some much needed pragmatic advice and support, always the rock upon which Goldman can ground himself. Excerpt: I know I was a monster; in that moment, lying low in the bush with sure death passing by mere inches from our heads, I could've done it. I could've smothered the life out of an infant.
What does that say about me? Make me? I mean beyond those crucial few moments. Can a man be a monster for just a little while, and be a human being the rest of the time? Whatever it takes to protect your men.
Maybe that's what they mean by 'burden of command.'Another Day
