Fandom: The Sentinel Pairing: Jim/F, Blair/F, Jim/Blair Length: medium Author on LJ: therentgirls Author Website: http://www.therentgirls.com/ Why this must be read: If you ever wondered whether one small decision can make all the difference, this one’s for you. Four angsty vignettes, told through Jim’s eyes, show us four wildly different futures for our favorite men. I can always count on Rentgirl 2 for a smart, savvy read, even when she’s tearing my heart out. Could any of these future have happened out of canon? All too easily. Three Things That Never Happened to Jim Ellison (and One That Did) And don't forget to send feedback if you liked this. It will make her day!

Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski Length: 1,215 Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] Author Website: bergann at Archive of Our Own Why this must be read: I love this story because it gives the reader a look into a dynamic that is usually overlooked. RayK and Dief had a kind of friendship in the series and I thought it was nice to see that developed a little more. Five Things Diefenbaker Likes About Ray Kowalski manages to have a love story in it, between Ray and Fraser, without losing that sense that the story is about Ray and Dief. Another thing I like is throughout the story there are all these little moments where [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] shows that Ray does understand not only that that Dief is a wolf but also what he'd be capable of. Fandom: GOOD OMENS Pairing: Aziraphale/Crowley Length: ~ 3400 words Author on LJ: todd_fanAuthor Website: unknown Why this must be read: I have a special fondness for library smut. There's something so deliciously wrong about fooling around amid the stacks, trying to keep quiet lest one invoke the wrath of a nearby librarian. This is the first of two library fics I'm going to rec. In it, Crowley and Aziraphale have an encounter at the Library of Alexandria. This may or may not have something to do with the building burning to the ground. ( 'We are not going to do this sort of thing in a library!' hissed Aziraphale )Read the story: Libri DiligoDon't forget to feedback the author - it doesn't matter how old or new the story is. Fandom: GOOD OMENS Pairing: Aziraphale/Crowley Length: ~ 3100 words Author on LJ: kenazfictionAuthor Website: Kenaz's Big Fiction IndexWhy this must be read: Library smut, rec #2. Aziraphale and Crowley visit the Library of Congress, although Crowley's disappointed that it apparently has nothing to do with sexual congress. When Aziraphale shoos him away and orders him to find something to read, Crowley settles down with a copy of Fanny Hill: or Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure, and the 18th-century sexual euphemisms (excerpts are quoted in the story to hilarious effect) go straight to his ... head. Naturally, he wants to share his discovery with Aziraphale and the Library of Congress earns its name. ( 'I don't suppose they've got a call number for porno,' Crowley grumbled. )Read the story: A Novel AssignationDon't forget to feedback the author - it doesn't matter how old or new the story is. Fandom: MERLIN Pairing: Uther/Nimueh Length: 1,692 Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Author Website: 'fanfic' tagWhy this must be read:Because Uther would do anything to have a son, anything, and in this one-shot Nimueh is all but happy to oblige. The bitterness and resentment of their relationship just fascinates me, and this author does an excellent job showing that in this piece. The world is not without balance. Not the simple weighing of good and evil that frightened children cling to when the night is coldest, but the older balances of birth and death, joy and sorrow. Uther is not a man who can understand such things. He desires a world in which he can bring the light that banishes the dark. These thoughts soothe him, conquer the fears he will not admit he has. But Nimueh knows differently. She’s shed the blood and the tears, both from her body and by her hand, and she knows that to dismiss them as evil is to slight the gods.More Fool She

Fandom: RUROUNI KENSHIN Pairing: Kenshin/Kaoru Length: 52K Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: FF.net ProfileWhy this must be read:This is an AU of the Rurouni Kenshin 'verse where all the characters and the first couple plot arcs of the RK series are transposed into a modern day urban dark fantasy setting--something a lot like World of Darkness or Underworld. I really enjoyed this one as a new twist on a series I love. It's very faithful to the original, but at the same time it's completely new because of the wildly different setting. If you're a dark fantasy fan, even if RK isn't something you've watched or read, this one is not to be missed. Blades of Bloodand it's sequel Witchy Woman

Sorry about the unscheduled pit stop there, folks, but my computer is back in working order now and (hopefully) won't be dying again! Fandom: BANDOM Pairing: Ashlee/Pete Length: ~16k Author on LJ: which_is_goldenAuthor Website: Fic tagWhy this must be read: This is a boxing AU very different from the last one I recced. Bruises to Prove It is an Invisible music video AU wherein the Simpson family returns home from a tour supporting Jessica and Ashlee wanders into the boxing gym Amanda Palmer opened in town since they've been gone. This is a beautiful story about Ashlee forging an identity for herself outside of her family's sometimes overbearing shadow. Ashlee isn't a character who gets written about often, so it's an extra treat when she's the main character in a nice, plotty fic that really gives her room to spread her own (slightly awkward) wings, especially with such a well-rounded supporting cast. Amanda and her boxers are fantastic, and Pete plays a small but incredibly sweet part. But ultimately I love this story because it's about Ashlee making her own life for herself. Fandom: DOLLHOUSE Pairing: Topher/Claire Length: 5500 k Author on LJ: kay_obsessive Author Website: museandblabber (writing journal) Why this must be read:One of the least explored time periods is the time right after The Hollow Men and before Epitaph One, when the world truly begins to crumble. What I love about Waiting is the attention to small cannon details in the story, how the progression to the end of the world creeps up and the slow unraveling of Topher (and in a way, Claire's) sanity. The push-pull dynamic between Claire and Topher here that is equal parts fascinating and tragic, and knowing how it ends for them both makes the end of the story the more gut wrenching.
