Oh wait, we have to make a quick stop here! I'm hungry, aren't you? We've been cruising around with no munchies, after all... We should stop for some pizza. No Anchovies Please.

Fandom: THE MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Illya, Napoleon
Length: quick but satisfying
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] togsos
Author Website: deviantART and check out her journal!
Why this must be read: This is hysterically funny and so damn cute that there were several near fatalities of teh cute when it first appeared. This story is all in the details, the clock ticking, the menu board, the sock covered toes. And check out the last scene, the sign above the bed and the book on the table, these make the whole thing, for me. A lot of the fun was in the comments as well, with cousins chiming in with filk!lyrics and all kinds of fun! ((You can also find links to each next chapter at the end of every post))

09:11 am Again by Reggie (NC17)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 28K
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: http://meandthee.shahrazad.net/author.php?authorid=146
Why this must be read: I only recently found Reggie's stories, unfortunately because she passed away. This is a sad, happy, joyful first-time story--with all the right elements for me, hurt/comfort, angst and a dash of kissing. The way it begins, it seems to be a post Sweet Revenge story--Hutch is anxiously waiting for word of Starsky in the hospital. But Starsky hasn't been shot, although things turn out very similar to the tag of SR--they do end up in bed together.

02:14 pm Compromising Positions / Detente by vulgarweed (NC-17)
Fandom: GOOD OMENS
Pairing: Aziraphale/Crowley
Length: ~ 5456 / 2655 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] vulgarweed
Author Website: Vulgarweed's AO3 page
Why this must be read: I couldn't let the month run out without sharing at least a couple slashy fics of the NC-17 variety. The majority of slash in the fandom runs more along the lines of friendship-turned-to-love and fade-to-black sex scenes, which is perfectly wonderful. But sometimes you just want a bit more ... more skin, more fire, more ruffled feathers.

It's Ancient Rome, circa 40 AD, the Festival of Saturnalia, where the world goes topsy-turvy, people switch places, and the natural order of things takes a holiday. Aziraphale has been named local Lord of Misrule, and his neighbours think it's high time the unassuming angel get some. In this instance (in the words of our charming author), "'do as the Romans do' involved rather publicly and noisily giving an Agent of the Adversary the shagging of his existence, while one was wearing entirely too much costume jewelry and purple drapery and the other was wearing mostly body oil, a slave collar, and a smile."

And, of course, the follow-up fic has Crowley pushing for his rightful turn at things, set in a luxurious Roman bath. Steamy, in more ways than one, and if you develop a wet wing!kink, don't say I didn't warn you.

'There is nobody who has ever met you in the history of the world who has ever thought you’d be interested in women,' Crowley sighed. He was sure he’d explained this before. )

07:30 pm Day Job by arsenicjade (PG or PG-13)
Fandom: BANDOM
Pairing: Ashlee/Pete
Length: < 1k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] arsenicjade
Author Website: Taste of Poison
Why this must be read:

[livejournal.com profile] 14valentines is a wonderful pan-fandom celebration of women in the two weeks leading up to V-Day, and Day Job is one of the many awesome stories that was written for it last year. This is a different kind of Ashlee fic than the last one I recced; it's short, but I wanted something to go with the last one. This one is about Ashlee the pop star, Ashlee the mom, and Ashlee the wife. It's a short-but-sweet glimpse into the ways she's feeling out the balance between her career and her new family.

She just needs people to look, to see, even if they're only seeing the parts she puts on display. Pete's like that, too. It makes it easier, because she never has to explain why she does the things she does, says the things she says, in the places she does and says them. She would worry about it, worry that they're kidding themselves, only she knows all the parts of her that Pete sees, and several of them are things she's never shown to anyone. That makes it easier to remember that this thing is real. She's real.

Length: 400 approx.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] freefalling85

Why this must be read:
Because its short but packs a punch, and its rare to see second-person narration done so well as in this little gem of a fic.

10:05 pm The Discovery series by Jyllean (TR-VS to MA-S)

Fandom: The Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: series
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jyllean
Author Website: at Artifact Storage Room 3

Why this must be read: Good solid writing, gentle slash and a case or two for our intrepid duo to solve.

[livejournal.com profile] jyllean  has been writing in the TS fandom for a decade, but only under this pseud since January. Her writing skill shows in these stories, which center around Jim and Blair as they evolve from detective and civilian ride-along to official partners. They also evolve from good friends to lovers.

These have a bit of something for everyone: hurt/comfort, case and action, angst, slice-of-life, appearances by other favorite characters and probably a genre or two I forgot to name. Despite the fact that so much is covered, I never felt like the stories were overstuffed or rushed. Jyllean has a nice easy writing style and in 127000+ words I don’t think I found a typo. Brava.

Here’s another example of how TS still generates passion and excellence more than a decade after the show’s end. As an avid reader, this makes me smile. A lot.

11:52 pm Chemicals in the Brain by iambickilometer (PG-13)

Fandom: DOLLHOUSE
Pairing: Topher/Boyd
Length: 1400k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] iambickilometer
Author Website:[livejournal.com profile] iambickilometer  (writing journal)
Why this must be read:

For whatever reason, there is very little male slash in the fandom, and even less Topher/Boyd, despite what I would consider the ease one can read subtext in their relationship. What I particularly love about Chemicals in the Brain is Boyd's response to the ease in which Topher programs sexually in the dolls, and Topher's own personal responce. It rings true to their season one characters, and hints at some of the troubling questions that Dollhouse brings up about the self while still ending on a lighter note.
