12:40 am Fic: You Have My Heart (in your hands) by Ruth Sadelle Alderson, FRAO
My name is Sparrow and I shall be the driver of this month's tourbus of Bandom! I tend to play around in all kinds of genre's, kinks and bands. I hope I have a little bit of everything that everyone will like!

If you are interested in what Bandom is, here and here are some good overviews. But a basic description is this: "There is a fandom which basically uses the term bandom to describe themselves, and means it to cover pretty much anything that could also be described as Music RPF." (quoted from fanlore.org).

There is a lot of bandom fanfic out there and I find a lot of people tend to gravitate towards the same kind of fics, if I post something that someone has already posted, I do apologized. I've done my best in going back through the posts to make sure that didn't happen.

So, here we go! And to get the first post (show) going, Cobra Starship, ladies and gentlemen!

Fandom: BANDOM
Pairing: Gabe Saporta/Victoria Asher
Length: 37K
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rsadelle AKA Ruth Sadelle Alderson
Author Website: none
Why this must be read: There's not a lot of Cobra Starship fic out there, but there should be! This is a definate fic to read, it feels real to the reader and the characters are so wonderfully developed, especially the building relationship between Gabe and Victoria AKA VickyT. I had to read it all the way through, completely sleep deprived the next day, but well worth it.

"Cobra's never say die" and this fic certainly embodies that sentiment!

02:32 am Chances are your chances are awfully good by fakeplasticsnow (PG-13)
Fandom: GLEE
Pairing: Kurt/Mike
Length: 4109
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fakeplasticsnow
Author Website: Masterlist
Why this must be read: Kurt is handcuffed to Mike Chang. It's not as kinky as it sounds.
This fic has a fantastic Kurt, Mike, and Brittany voice, and I like that she's just a teeny bit sneaky. I think this fic shows off the hilariousness and absurdity that is Glee, and manages to be sweet while doing it. Plus, Kurt's opposition to Valentine's day seems so like him.

"Hey, I watched you do 'Push It.' You can't judge me, all the goods were on display that afternoon. And then you semi-stripped for me earlier. In the library."

07:02 am Subject: Consider Yourself Warned About No. 11 by Anonymous (PG)
Howdy, folks. I'll be driving the cab for Sherlock fandom this month. I promise I won't try to kill anyone. :)

Fandom: SHERLOCK HOLMES (BBC)
Pairing: None
Length: Short
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] scribble55178
Author Website: None that I know of.
Why this must be read::

It's fanon in BBC fandom that John is a tough little guy who can beat the crap out of anyone. Of course, anyone who's seen the movies or read the books knows that Sherlock should be able to take care of himself, and this story is a hilarious look at that.

07:18 am Role Model by Em Dash (PG)

Hello and welcome to this round of Stargate reccing. Please buckle your belt and we'll get underway. :) I've got a variety of recs, mostly gen with some slash and het thrown in for flavor. I've got angsty stuff, dramatic stuff, and hilarious stuff. I've got both Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis in the offering since I enjoy both shows immensely. Also most of my SG-1 recs this time round deal with the character Daniel Jackson this time round. So got a bit for everybody. So hold your "oh s**t" handles and we'll get underway!!

Fandom:
STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: none
Length: 230 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] theemdash
Author Website:
[livejournal.com profile] what_works  (fic journal)
Why this must be read:

Summary: The first shot surprises him only because it hits.

A tag for Season 8 episode "Prototype", this powerful portrayal of the changes wrought on Daniel after seven years fighting for the SGC will ring in your mind long after reading it. In only 230 words, Em Dash explores the situation of Daniel shooting Khalek with only a twitch of a hesitation. After that nanosecond, it's no hesitation whatsoever as Daniel takes down the threat in cold blood. The transition from archeology-Daniel to Action-Jackson (as some in the SG1 fandom call him) is painfully and starkly evident when examined in Em Dash's deft character-exploring hands. Be prepared to think a bit after reading this; you won't be able to help it.

09:41 am Hiding by Molo (Mature)
Hi, I'm Nyssa and I'll be your S&H driver this month! We'll be taking the scenic route, with breathtaking views of pretty cops in various stages of undress. Please buckle your seatbelts!

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 865 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] morganlogan
Author website: Molo has a website, but I believe all her fic is now archived at AO3.
Why this must be read: Anything by Molo must be read. This fic is short, angsty, and might just bring a tear to your eye. It gives us the guys "undercover" and wishing they didn't have to be, holding on until things get better. And same-sex marriage still isn't legal in California.

12:22 pm Lose The Battle (Win The War) by reni_days (R)
My apologies for posting my last rec late today, we had some access issues last night :) Thanks for letting me share my strange and specific tastes with you this month, it was a lot of fun to pay homage to some incredible writers (and a podficcer) in our fantastic fandom! ♥

Fandom: BANDOM
Pairing: Ryan/Jon/Brendon/Spencer
Length: 12,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] reni_days
Author Website: author's fic journal
Why this must be read: Group sex fic is pretty outrageous, on principle. And fic wherein the characters read fanfiction is not only outrageous but frequently embarrassing too. And yet! [livejournal.com profile] reni_days, one of the sharpest and most witty writers in our fandom, took both of these things on and somehow made it believable, hilarious, self-deprecating, and actually really sexy.

So I thought I would end my month at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van with a rec for the story that you might not think could ever work but has ended up being one of my absolute favourite things to read in bandom, and gets better every time I re-read it. Trust me when I say I am the first person to get squeamish about stories that describe band members encountering fandom - so I am constantly amazed at just how perfectly it's pulled off in this fic. It really, really shouldn't be missed!

Fandom: GLEE
Pairing: Brittany/Santana
Length: medium length
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] zippadedoodah
Author Website: tag list
Why this must be read:
This is a great, realistic fic about Brittany and Santana, and how they cope with Brittany's ADD. It's sweet, and the way Santana provides for Brittany is wonderful, but it's also bittersweet because they can't find a permanent solution. It's a good read.

07:33 pm Observations by jAnon (R)
Hi guys! I'm Rynne, and I'll be driving the van for Star Trek this month. I'm a huge Kirk/Spock girl, so that's mostly what you can expect from me this month, though I do promise at least one that's not. I'll also be reccing mostly Reboot, but there will be some TOS mixed in there as well. Let's start!

Fandom: STAR TREK: REBOOT
Pairing: Kirk/Spock, Scotty/Uhura, Ensemble
Length: ~438,000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] anon_j_anon
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read:

This was the fic that made me decide I had to sign up for Star Trek on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van, so of course I'm starting out with it.

As you can see by the word count, this is a long fic, and honestly, it has pretty much everything. It's Spock's observations of life aboard the Enterprise, and the writing style is hard to pin down, in a good way. Some chapters feel like journal entries, others are stream of consciousness, there are a few interview/article style chapters, and more are just a typical first-person story. jAnon has an awesome Spock voice, but that, and the deft mixture of styles, while wonderful, are not why I'm reccing this fic.

Something that struck me as I read this fic was how much respect jAnon gives to pretty much all the subjects she addresses. Uhura and Chekov get to speak Swahili and Russian, and while jAnon does provide translations in annotations, those are linked elsewhere, not in the text. But the languages mixed in don't feel like they're excluding me, a reader who doesn't speak Swahili or Russian -- they feel like they're including more aspects of who Uhura and Chekov are.

This story has accurate math and science, and a lot of it. It really feels like science fiction as I read, which is not necessarily true for all or even most of the Star Trek fic I've read. But science is a whole lot of what these people do and who they are, and jAnon respects that and naturally works it into the story.

There are so many issues that this story deals with, but again, respectfully. There's prejudice, ability and disability, dealing with past trauma, dealing with current trauma, the end of relationships, the beginning of relationships -- it's not easy, but jAnon shows how utterly worthwhile it is to deal with this stuff, and the love and respect she has for the characters and the world permeates the entire fic.

There's a lot more I can say about this fic, but I'll leave off with just a few more things. This fic combines new storylines with reboots of TOS episodes, and I am particularly fond of how it handles City on the Edge of Forever and The Trouble with Tribbles. And while the Kirk/Spock relationship is a large and important part of the fic, this truly does have an ensemble, with plenty of the other members of the crew.

Also, this fic does deal with rape and violence, so be warned if those are triggery.

09:48 pm The Coldest December by Aimee
Hi everyone, I'm [livejournal.com profile] horseriderjen and I'll be you driver for the Sailor Moon van. Sailor Moon was the fandom that got me into fanfiction and it is still one of my favorites. For a quick brush up on the awesome series. Sit back, buckle your belts, and enjoy the ride!

Fandom: Sailor Moon
Pairing: Usagi/Mamoru
Length: long
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Aimee's fic on Sailormoon Fiction
Why this must be read:

Aimee is one of the classic writer's in the fandom. And this story is the one that keeps drawing me back into the fandom. A common theme in season 1 fic is that Usagi is in love with Tuxedo Mask and Mamoru at the same time - not knowing that they are the same person. In so many stories Usagi finds out who Mask is, and is automatically ok with it. Aimee gives us a beautiful more realistic story where our superheros are not perfect, they are flawed and make mistakes, but still can have a happy ending. If you've never read a Sailor Moon fic before, this is the one to start with.
