Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 18123 words
Author on LJ: not known
Author Website: http://brothersinarmsfiction.com/shadde/tsgen.html
Why this must be read: - Blair, student guide, resists the call to bond with Jim, at least in part because he is looking for a way to help all sentinels manage their senses without the need for a guide.

This is an interesting psychological study of the needs of guides; sentinels are covered too, but things are more hard and fast for them; they will die if they don't get a guide.

I suspect that English is not Shadde's first language; there are, I feel, one or two slight constructional awkwardnesses in her writing, but those don't detract from the thrust of the story - the need in guides to bond, a different need from that of a sentinel but nonetheless as strong.

11:30 am Anderson hates Sherlock by MarbleGlove (G)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER/Sherlock
Pairing: none
Length: 100 word drabble
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] marbleglove
Author Website: MarbleGlove on FF.net, MarbleGlove on DreamWidth
Why this must be read:
I personally want to recommend EVERYTHING by this author, particularly her Highlander crossovers (her Stargate crossovers with Highlander are SO GOOD). This drabble is a good jumping-off point. It literally made me bark outloud with laughter and exclaim how good it was, and that's a rare reaction to a drabble for me. Please go read this and then everything else this author has ever written, you won't be disappointed, I promise!

10:30 pm Rain by Hilary (NC-17)
Fandom: STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE
Pairing: Qui-Gon Jinn/Obi-Wan Kenobi
Length: 24k
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: N/A but her stories are archived here: Master and Apprentice
Why this must be read: The sadness of a planet’s fate weighs heavy on Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, but it can also bring them closer together.  This is an AU set after Obi-Wan's knighting when he and Qui-Gon are new lovers. It's powerful and passionate and shows us how diffucult the life of a Jedi can be.

Excerpt:
Qui-Gon broke the kiss and raised his head, sighing and smiling
faintly. "Oh, my Obi-Wan." He stepped back, shaking his head. "You do... amazing
things to me. But I know your pain too well; I will not press you." He bowed his
head, the nod of a Jedi to an equal, and moved away.

"Wait." Obi-Wan caught his master's arm. "Don't go. Don't hold yourself
away from me, Qui-Gon." The knight looked up into those blue eyes, eyes that saw
him for what he was: headstrong, emotional, constantly battling his own
failings. He was reminded again, though, that the only difference between
himself and Qui-Gon was the experience of years. Qui-Gon hid his pain well and
released it more readily, or at least rationalized it away, but it was there
now, nevertheless.
