Fandom: INCEPTION Title: The Devil Takes His OwnPairing: Arthur/Eames Length: 29,623 Author on LJ: kiyala ( shannys_corner) Author Website: Author's works on AO3Why this must be read: The zombie apocalypse has come and gone, and the humans have done their best to pick themselves up and keep going in a world crawling with the infected. Several things have changed since the rising, and one of these changes is the rise in social media. Inception is a team of bloggers, run by Arthur and Eames, who can drive into zombie territory without batting an eyelid, but are far too afraid to act on the tension they both feel between them. That's right: it's a Newsflesh AU!!! And if you're a fan of Mira Grant (Seanan McGuire)'s bestselling zombie blogger dystopia Feed and its sequels, you absolutely must read this clever and thorough fusion with the universe of Inception. Even if you're not familiar with the books, it's still easy to enjoy this gripping and dark look at what happens to Dreamshare in the middle of the zombie apocalypse (though I would recommend at least reading the wikipedia page to ground yourself in the universe), and how even when thrust into completely different roles, the Inception team still maintains their unique skill set, while Arthur and Eames still maintain their endless, eternal UST. Also, I really love the way this fic weaves the plot of Inception into and around the world of Newsflesh, with the stakes being even higher in the post-apocalypse. Plus, there's a deliciously psychotic turn by Cobb in this fic. I can't help it, I really love fics where Cobb is a satisfyingly complete and utter dick--he's all that and more in this, while still being tragically easy to empathize with. And meanwhile, Arthur and Eames are beautifully in love. ( Nobody works with you as well as I do, and I hate the thought of you having to make do. )The Devil Takes His Own

Fandom: INCEPTION Title: Plate TectonicsPairing: Arthur/Eames Length: 5,637 Author on LJ: indysaurAuthor Website: masterlist of fics on author's journalWhy this must be read: I know I've already recced one Indysaur fic this month, but honestly I couldn't *not* rec this, especially since there are Inception fans out there who still haven't read it, and that's just totally unacceptable. :D This is one of those fics, and Indysaur is one of those writers, who unfailingly makes my heart swell a few sizes and keep the feeling with me ever afterwards. In this fic, Arthur has to hide out in Mombasa for a while, so naturally he crashes at Eames' place--with charming, not-quite predictable results. Indysaur's writing features pitch-perfect characterization, smart, wry humor, heart-swelling A/E interaction, superb dialogue, and a hilarious ensemble dynamic between Arthur, Eames, and Yusuf. Eames & Arthur discover each other and themselves, and if you're like me, you'll fall even more in love with this pairing as a result. ( Eames briefly considers foisting Arthur off on Yusuf, but Yusuf has been a good and kind friend. )Plate Tectonics

So, the season finale aired last night, which means we'll have to wait until September for the next new episode. Guess that means we need some nice, preferably long fanfics to keep us busy over the summer, right? How's about this one then? Fandom: NCIS Pairing: Gibbs/Tony Length: over 66,000 words Author on LJ: laura_trekkieAuthor website/archives: unknown Why this must be read: From the author's summary: "Gibbs and Tony go undercover to try to bring down a people-trafficking ring. Things go wrong and Tony is hurt, but Gibbs is there to help him through it." And that's it in a nutshell, only it's so much more at the same time. The entire second half of the story is full of amazing, heart-felt, loving hurt/comfort (poor Tony really gets whumped). Everyone is wonderfully in character, the plot is intriguing, and the writing is top notch. Please do heed the warnings, just to be on the safe side, but believe me, the story is well worth reading.
