12:41 am The Cards All Fall (R)
Fandom: TEEN WOLF
Pairing: Peter centric (side Derek/Stiles plus canon pairings)
Length: 51 700 circa
Author: ChaoticReactions
Why this must be read: I'm so glad that Chao finished this story during my recs, it's one of my top five! I love ship fics, but if you want to have my adoration, you must give me some great character study and Chao made a superb work with her Peter. He is the sassy badass that we hated/loved, but it shows us how he can work with the young pack and his history (and check also the very hot Chao's Kink Bingo series).

08:25 am Caught at First Slip by KWS (R)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: Ficlet
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kiwisue
Author Website: Author Storylist at Palelyloitering
Why this must be read: Because this is a hot and yet lovely little ficlet from KWS, that somehow brings sunshine with it no matter what the weather outside. The lads are at a cricket match, and have skived off to the changing rooms early, Bodie having done well as batsmen, and they're celebrating in their own way. KWS is a good, solid Pros writer, and there's a lovely feel of the lads here, both of them just so together. This is a perfect, bite-sized coffee break of a fic. And did I mention, hot? *g*

Excerpt: "Over!"

Bodie, being somewhat preoccupied, doesn't hear the umpire's call. Nor does Doyle, for whom the word has no significance anyway, whose attention is all on the back and forth that is everything he and Bodie want, right now, right here. In a moment though, the scattered sound of applause comes through the changing room window...

09:58 am Never Tell Anybody Anything by unreckless (R)
Fandom: BASEBALL RPF
Pairing: Rick Porcello/Ryan Perry, Rick Porcello/Rich Harden
Length: 44,000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] unreckless
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] likeanything
Why this must be read: I love nothing more than a good bildungsroman. I really enjoy pieces that trace character growth/trajectory, and this fic does that very well. Rick Porcello is a rookie navigating his way through his first Major League season, as well as his sexuality and his attraction to his teammate and best friend, Ryan Perry. [livejournal.com profile] unreckless weaves in various family members and teammates, creating something that feels like an ensemble piece, while not losing sight of Rick and his everyday struggles—both external and internal. Jake, Rick's brother, steals the show in almost every scene he's in, and the other teammates and relatives' appearances don't feel extraneous or unnecessary. They all add to the story that's being told.

09:13 pm The Secret Identity of John Watson by Scifigrl47 (gen)
Fandom: SHERLOCK BBC
Pairing: John Watson/OFC
Length: 27714 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: AO3, FF.net
Why this must be read:

Sam's friends say she needs to find "some perfectly ordinary bloke" to date.

John Watson seems nice and normal. So why do strange, and sometimes dangerous, things keep happening when she's with him? Why do people keep warning her off him with mysterious innuendos? Samantha's friends think he must be a spy. Or maybe a mobster. And who is his creepy, dark-haired stalker? Still, he does seem awfully nice. And it's interesting. And sort of exciting.

First of all, this Samantha Carter is not that Samantha Carter. A half point off for lack of originality. Which leaves 99.5 points for thrills, chills, right-on characterizations, a real plot, laugh-out-loud funny, and all round adorableness. Plus snarky commentary from Sam's gal pals.

Dating John Watson might actually turn out much like this. Not to mention the characters who are still holding out for gay porn ;-)

11:25 pm Babysitting Tommy by Rebelcat (G)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: Short Story
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] myrebelcat
Author Website: Rebelcat's Pros HQ
Why this must be read: Babysitting Tommy is one of the Pros fics that makes me smile out loud every time I read it, and cheers me up properly! Rebelcat wrote some fun Pros, with a deft hand, and this is probably my favourite of hers. I'm not normally a big fan of Pros stories that include kids as major characters, and this should be a bad idea - what's that old adage about working with children? - but in Rebelcat's hands it comes off beautifully. Less so for Bodie and Doyle, mind you... *g*

Excerpt: “Blood-thirsty little tyke isn’t he?” said Bodie, sourly. “Comes from a long line of villains, no doubt.”

That seemed a bit harsh to Doyle, considering that the boy was only six. And they really didn’t know anything about him, other than that they were to pick him up and put him on a plane. They’d have to make peace with the kid, if they were going to be spending the next hour, possibly longer, together. God, please let it not be longer. Please let that plane be on time.

Doyle plastered a conciliatory smile on his face. “Tommy, do you know what your dad does for a living?” Cowley hadn’t seen fit to explain exactly what Peter Winter’s importance was to the security of the nation, but maybe the boy could provide some useful information.

The boy’s reply was immediate. “He fills an innernational economic nish, providin’ the private citizen with the means to resist fishist dictators - like you!”

Babysitting Tommy

Sorry for the huge gap between recs - I was going to be so good this month, and then of all things I ended up off work poorly again... Hope the mods won't mind if I try to catch up a wee bit (it's still last week until the day after tomorrow, right...? *g*)
