Fandom: FARSCAPE Pairing: None Author on LJ: davidhearne Author Website: Archived at LeviathanWhy this must be read: Frankly, I'm surprised that this hasn't been recced already. Farscape fandom has a woefully inadequate supply of high-quality comedy fic, but this story single-handedly goes a long way towards rectifying this problem. Even people who've never seen the show will have a good laugh, as well as having a good cringe at the utter stupidity the human race is capable of. Written before 'A Constellation of Doubt' aired, this fic also displays a disturbing amount of insight into the writers' brains, tackling the same subject matter as ACoD, albeit in a much more humorous fashion. Read it, love it, shake your head in amusement. And then despair for the future of humankind, and book a ticket on the next shuttle off the planet. Fandom: The Sentinel Direct Link: FootnotesPairing: Jim/Blair Author on LJ: destinaAuthor Website: Worlds Without BoundariesWhy this must be read: This story does what, to me, is the main reason I read fanfiction: Destina takes the existing canon and writes about what happens in the in-between times, and in the process creates a more resonant and affecting story. "Footnotes" take The Sentinel and extracts the good parts - the characters' developing friendship and barely-subtextual romance - and so reading it is a bit like rewatching all the best moments of the show (only better written). It's long, engaging, sweet, satisfying, and utterly true to the characters. And, er, hi! I'm Mary, and I'll be your Sentinel reccer for February. I really only read J/B in this fandom, so I'm afraid I won't have many recommendations for stories with other pairings. But then, something like 75% of all Sentinel stories are focused on the J/B *some*how, anyway. Footnotes | | |

Fandom: OZ Pairing: Beecher/Keller, mentions of Ryan/Gloria and if you have an active imagination like me, Ryan/Alvarez Authors on LJ: Not that I know of Authors' Website: Not that I know of Why this must be read: This is what could have happened in Season 2 if everyone had just taken their heads out their asses for a little bit. The characterization in this story is fabulous. Ryan is at his flirty, sexy, evil best. Beecher is crazy and conniving, just the way I like him (except when he's acting like a slut, that's fun too). And Alvarez, my sweet sweet Alvarez, is absolutely brilliant. Somewhere along the line, Alvarez became my favorite character on Oz and he gets short changed a bit in fic, so it's a real pleasure to see him here scheming with the best of them. And yes, Keller is as hot and as fabulous as always. This story is just plain fun. Watch the boys scheme, watch the boys dance, who comes out on top? Who the fuck cares? Author Website: I found this at the Sailslash archive: http://www.slashcity.org/hh/archive/0/beyondduty.htmlWhy this must be read:Remember what I was saying in my intro post about being a really huge hurt/comfort junkie? Well this one just pushes all my buttons. The canon (movie-canon) all but comes right out and says that Archie was raped by Simpson. Thus, we have many recovery fics in the fandom. Some are much better done than others. This is my favorite. (One's a sequel to the first, but they almost read like a Part I and Part II of a single fic) In this story Archie and Horatio get some shoreleave and, as all slashy sailors do, end up sharing a room 'because it's cheaper'. And as all slashy sailors do, they share a bed where talk turns to sex and then talk becomes sex. And although Archie's not keen on the idea, given his past, he'll do anything for Horatio. The second part ("Friendship and Lies") is where the serious H/C comes in. Horatio doesn't realize that Archie was just being accomodating in the first part. And when they get leave again, he thinks things are going to set up just as well as the last time. Missing an episode or two is not that big a deal because the focus of each episode is the case, which will be wrapped up by the end of the hour. BUT sometimes, I just feel like stabbing myself when they bring up a point about a character and then fail to fully address it! At the end of Season 3, Greg was involved in a lab explosion, but at the start of Season 4, the show never dealt with his injuries. This story goes into AU after the explosion, dealing with an injured Greg and the beginning of a relationship. Insert hot sex and you've got a very happy me. Whoo! All the Way to Paris | | |
