10:25 am Squaring Accounts by Melusina (NC-17)
Greetings! I am [livejournal.com profile] the_stowaway and I will be driving the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van this month for Pirates of the Caribbean.

Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
Pairing: Jack, Elizabeth, Will, Norrington (various pairings)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fabu
Author Website: Cultural Infidelities

Why this must be read:

This story is the sequel to Triangulation, which has been recc'd here previously. It is long (about 40,000 words) and the author warns for "graphic depictions of sex and violence."

Squaring Accounts has some of everything – action/adventure, humor, angst, magic, and, of course, top-notch smut. It continues the tale of Will and Elizabeth as pirates aboard the Black Pearl with Jack. They find Commodore Norrington, who had been washed off his ship in a storm, marooned on an island and rescue him. Complications ensue.

What follows is a swashbuckling adventure – complete with chases, sea battles, some beautifully realized magic and the most chilling villain since Barbossa. All seamlessly intertwined with various romantic plotlines.

Melusina does a wonderful job of portraying the dynamics of the Jack/Will/Elizabeth relationship – both the strengths and weaknesses, the joys and the stresses. Norrington's presence gives an intriguing spin to the situation, which she explores sypathetically but without giving easy answers. Her characterization is spot-on throughout.

It's great fun and a real page-turner.

12:01 pm The Last Day of Endless Summer by Dee (PG-13)
Fandom: STAR WARS PT
Pairing: Gen. Anakin, Obi-Wan.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cupiscent
Author Website: Furtive Scribblings - fanfic by Dee
Why this must be read:

Dee writes with breathtaking clarity, especially in finding the poignancy of small moments. She moves from the early years of their partnership to the later years that revolve around tight companionship. Here are Anakin and Obi-Wan in snapshots, from past to future, playing on Obi-Wan’s incomprehension and Anakin’s faith.

12:05 pm September by Bell (R)
Fandom: STAR WARS PT
Pairing: Anakin/Obi-Wan, Anakin/Padme
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] usomitai
Author Website: memories section
Why this must be read:

In small scenes, Bell recounts a long and vivid journey between Episode I and III. Some events are amusing, some disturbing, and some heartbreaking. [livejournal.com profile] usomitai warns If randomsity and lack of a clearly-defined plot frightens you, run, run fast, however I find her writing extraordinarily insightful. Yes, the title is apt, too.

12:11 pm Benevolent Sibling by fahye (R)
I'm back in the driver's seat for the Battlestar Galactica 2003 fandom, this month. Prepare for a wild and crazy ride!

Fandom: Battlestar Galactica 2003
Pairing: Only Six knows!
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fahye
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] mercurical_wit
Why this must be read: What if the Cylons were as fascinated with the romantic and personal relationships on board the Galactica as fans are? And what if they had kept some camera feeds live after the documentary episode, Final Cut?

05:50 pm Tracking Time by Namaste (G)
Hello! I am [livejournal.com profile] hannahrorlove and will be driving the van for "House" this September.

Fandom: HOUSE
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] namasteyoga
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] namasteyoga
Why this must be read: Because we're starting a new season next week and this fic elegantly captures and puts into words one of the best aspects of the show: the deep and abiding friendship between House and Wilson. This is an extremely well-written novella by any set of standards, and this fandom doesn't have many good, long fics. This fic takes more investment in terms of time and effort to read, but it's well worth it.

06:28 pm Call Me by Maygra (NC 17)
Hi! I'm TrueEnough. I'm thrilled to be able to rec for my very favorite gunslingers this month. I love Chris/Vin Slash but I have more than a few stories in line that veer into Gen and uh, third party lovefests. All of the stories, however, are exceptionally well written. My gratitude to all of the authors.

Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN ~ Modern Day AU
Pairing: Chris/Vin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] maygra
Author Website: Maygra's Musings
Why this must be read:

Call Me begins with a late night phone call that prompts both Chris and Vin to look at each other in a new light. Maygra has a great ear for how normally taciturn men try - and sometimes fail - to say what they really mean and also for showing how hard-bitten men can bring out such deliberate tenderness in one another.

10:15 pm Never Flip the Urple Switch by duck (NC-17)
Hello! I'm Kri (don't worry, you probably haven't heard of me), and I'll be driving the Doctor Who van this month. I hope to rec a mix of new and old school Who, but probably not a lot of straight, plotless smut.

Which makes my first rec a bit ironic.

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: Ten/Rose, sort of
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] speshulduck
Author Website: None that I could find
Why this must be read:

This particular fic was written for International Urple Day, in which various fans all across the internet wrote fics essentially in the style of bodice-rippers; meaning lots of phrases like "throbbing manhood" and "heaving bosom". Never Flip the Urple Switch is only slightly smutty, but definitely among the funniest fics I've .
