09:25 am The Chicago Affair by Nataliya (R)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya, Illya/other
Length: 20,000 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: U.N.C.L.E. File 40
Why this must be read: Waverly assigns Illya to be the lure in a honeytrap of a professor who is also being blackmailed by THRUSH. Napoleon is to accompany his partner to Chicago and run the operation and the recordings. Neither man is comfortable with the assignment, but Illya is pragmatic as he was assigned such duties on occasion a decade earlier when he was with the KGB. Nataliya has a terrific writing style that draws you into the story and into Napoleon and Illya's thoughts. It reads with such a natural grace that you can see it in your minds eye as you read it and the characters feel spot on. When I found this story, I read it a couple of times. I think it's a gem of a story that is deserving of your attention.

10:36 am Never Leave by jean_geanie (PG-13)
Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: Sam Tyler/Gene Hunt
Length: 2100 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jean_geanie
Author Website: jean_geanie's fic list
Why this must be read: Sam isn't always at fault for causing his own angst. Usually he has some help. Sometimes, it comes from those he least expects. This is a brilliant "what if?" fic that will make you question who really is the madman. The fic is told from the aggressor's POV, though I'm sure he doesn't see it that way. In fact, he's doing what's best for Sam because Sam can't look after himself, not forever. Sam is ill and he's going to keep him safe.

No warnings from the author.

04:32 pm a thousand miles (mend what is broken) by chatona (NC17)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Gibbs/DiNozzo, DiNozzo/OMC
Length: ~ 20.500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] chatona
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] shorikurai
Why this must be read:

This is one of last year's NCIS Big Bang fics and yes, even though I was the main cheerleader while this fic was still a WIP, that is not the reason why I am reccing it. This story deals with the “What if?” scenario after 4x03 where Tony took the job in Spain after all.

Now we've seen this scenario a few times but nobody quite handled it like [livejournal.com profile] chatona did. She gives each character time to meddle through all the hurt and disappointments of the past years all by themselves and in the process they heal. We get to see a strong side of Tony as leader we knew was there, the original characters introduced as his team in Spain find their way into your heart right from the start and even though his old team tries to lure him back to Washington, Tony stays firm and doesn't fall back into old patterns as I've seen many a writer make him do.

Personally, I think fandom rarely deals in a sensible way with the fallout of how the team treats Tony and how fucked up all their relationships to each other actually are without writing it completely over the top. This story? Deals with all of it in a way that makes sense and you can't not love every time your heart aches.

05:16 pm The Highest Bidder by Lady Angel – NC-17
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Length: 3800 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: http://www.lalibrary.net/
Why this must be read:

This is what some people would call crack!fic and I’m okay with that. A lot of this story is a litte out of character for most everyone in it, but I’m a firm believer that when in fandom, you have to have fun first and foremost. It can’t always be a heart attack on a plate, there’s nothing wrong with care free, especially if it’s well written and just plain fun and hot to read. This is both of those. Fun, sexy and while out of character, a great read.

05:47 pm Not the Boy Next Door by SassyInkPen [NC-17]
Fandom: TOUR OF DUTY
Pairing: Myron Goldman/Johnny McKay
Author on LJ:  [livejournal.com profile] sassyinkpen
Author website: Notes From the Underground, Sassy's Smut Emporium
Warnings: Non-Con.

Why this must be read:

You will find a variety of fiction in the Tour of Duty fandom. Everything from humourous (even though we have been told war isn't funny), friendship, hot-dirty-nastyness, and thought provoking. Yes, you will also find dark fic.

This fic is not a happy fic. It's an extreme and disturbing "what if". It reflects a dark headspace that the characters in Tour of Duty can be as a consequence of war and as part of their character development in the series. The brutality of war is not glossed over in the series, and not in the fanfic within the fandom. The character of Johnny McKay is usually portrayed as a fun loving, girl (or boy) chasing chopper jock. But in this fic you can see darker sides of him, and that is what Sassy was exploring here.

09:35 pm 'Everybody Got Naked and We Got Cap Back Day' by Letterblade (PG-13)
Fandom: MARVEL COMICS (Avengers)
Pairing: Tony Stark/Steve Rogers
Length: 4857 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] wired_lizard
Author Website: The Letterblade Library
Why this must be read:

Because there's a scene, where a naked Steve is riding armored!Tony piggyback down the corridors of a spaceship and shooting down Skrulls, that just gets more awesome every time I read it. The mental image, folks.

Well, okay, also because it's an incredibly cathartic fix-it!fic for the Civil War arc (you know the bit. Or if you don't, go read the comicsverse section of the Marvel overview - you'll need it) - the characterization is fantastic (especially the Tony-voice), the writing is smooth, and the fix is plausible (you know, considering). It's also the first fic I ever read in the Avengers fandom and thus can totally be blamed for my current obsession adoration.

---

The term prison lab applies, another portion of his mind notices, not just because it's Skrulls and that's pretty much their default, but because there's a tall, pale body on a worktable, sealed under glass. Snow White, bleeps one corner of his associative matrix. Identity confirmed, bleeps another. Identity confirmed. Identity confirmed.

09:46 pm Night Light, by bakaknight (R)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Vecchio
Length: 20,000+ words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bakaknight
Author Website: fic tag
Why this must be read: because it's a perfect slice of Vecchio's life in Vegas, how he not only survives there, but thrives there for a while, before falling back into his life in Chicago.

[livejournal.com profile] bakaknight does an excellent job of showing us the truth behind a Las Vegas mobster, the rhythms of Armando Langoustini's life and the complicated relationships that twist through the Iguana family.

Night Light is a complex, nuanced, and well-written story, one of the best delights of this past year's Seekrit Santa fic exchange. This is everything you've ever wanted in a Vecchio-in-Vegas story, even if you never knew it.
