Fandom: HEROES Pairing: Mohinder/Elle, Molly, Mohinder's mother Length: 2,723 Author on LJ: aurillyAuthor Website: Fic MasterlistWhy This Must Be Read: I've recced a lot of angst this month, so I thought I'd shake it up by reccing one of my favourite feel good fics. Postcards from Home is a post-S2 AU in which Mohinder takes Molly back home to India for a vacation. Away from the Company and the general fast pace of life in NYC, the ramifications of everything that Mohinder's experienced thus far start to weigh on him (I love a fic where characters have to reflect on what they've done!). Just when he's getting a bit too introspective, he starts receiving postcards from Elle, and so starts a sweet, charming, epistolary friendship. This is a heart-warming fic about two people who don't really have any friends, and who aren't really sure how to make friends, finding each other and awkwardly muddling through. Molly's on hand to provide some home truths in that blunt way that only children can. This fic is adorable and a guaranteed pick me up. ( Excerpt )Postcards from Home

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Vidder: Gnine Music/Artist: Malchik Gey by t.A.T.u. Pairing: Napoleon/Illya Vidder on LJ: gnineVidder's website: her YouTube channelWhy this must be watched: "Malchik gey" is Russian for "gay boy," and this song might as well have been written for our favorite Soviet secret agent, with his decided disinterest in most of the women chasing him--why bother with the hassle, when he already has a boyfriend? I will be honest and admit that I was the one who told Gnine to use the song. That being said, even I didn't expect her to pull it off this fabulously. The editing is fast-paced and fun, the timing is perfect (the "thinking no" near the beginning is a personal favorite moment) and the clips are both amusing and adorable, whether or not you even known MUNCLE. Fandom: Anne of Green Gables Vidder: renoir160 Musical artist: Andrew Lloyd Webber (I think this version is Minnie Driver singing, not sure) Pairing: n/a Vidder on LJ: Unknown Vidder's website: http://www.youtube.com/user/renoir160Why this must be watched: There isn't a whole lot of material available for willing vidders, and most of the vids are Anne/Gilbert. So it's a treat to watch this video, which takes a look at what it meant to Anne to finally have a home and family when she came to Green Gables. The vid is simply made, no flash and bang here. Renoir160 lets the scenes speak for themselves, and the music puts poignancy where one might not have always thought to look for it. I loved watching this, and hope you do, too. Fandom: TORCHWOOD Pairing: Mainly gen. Mentions of Owen/Gwen, Owen/Diane and Jack/Ianto but nothing explicit. Length: ~ 2,000 words Author on LJ: phineyjAuthor Website: No website that I know of. Why this must be read: Owen in fanfiction is really hit or miss for me, but I really loved him here. His characterization is to the point, and I loved the plot and his development. I liked how each part highlighted a piece of his personality and how everything together paints a vivid picture of him. The story blends humor and drama so well that it'd be difficult to put it solely in either category. ( Read more )Twenty things to do in Cardiff when you’re dead

Fandom: MICHAEL BIEHN CHARACTERS - Kyle Reese from Terminator Vidder: derlokar Musical artist: Brad Fiedel Pairing: - Vidder on LJ: don't know Vidder's website: http://www.mbrulz.euweb.cz/ Why this vid kicks ass: There are a lot of great Terminator vids out there, but somehow this one has always stayed my favorite. It captures the essence of the movie and uses some wonderful techniques for it, that gives it its own unique look. Plus I love the soundtrack of the movie, so to me it's a plus that that's the music used here. Despite the title of the vid, its focus is the movie itself and all its characters. Although, like in the movie, Kyle Reese is what brings it all together. The Terminator Michael Biehn Rulz Trailer 2004

Fandom: MICHAEL BIEHN CHARACTERS - Johnny Ringo from Tombstone Vidder: R. Anderson Musical artist: Wall of Voodoo Pairing: - Vidder on LJ: don't know Vidder's website: I only know his you tube channel Mister Andersons vidzWhy this vid kicks ass: This video is extremely well made. Its one I have watched many times and never get tired of. Great choice of song for a Tombstone vid to begin with. The images of the vid fit wonderfully with the lyrics AND follow the music itself. The video focusses on Wyat Earp, Doc Holiday and Johnny Ringo, three volatile men, but each in his own way. Watch how each part about one of these characters starts and finishes.... This video is high quality, so I recommand you watch it in HQ and then click it to full screen. The vid will still be clear and sharp! No man's land

Vidder: Littleblackbow/chibitoaster Musical artist: Apocalyptica Pairing: Harry Potter/Severus Snape Vidder on LJ: chibitoaster / littleblackbow on IJ Vidder's website: http://www.chibitoaster.comWhy this vid kicks ass: This vid is a post-DH fixit story, told in graphic novel-style set to music. (It's also a bit of a Dark Shadows crossover, but you don't really need to know that to appreciate it; that's just providing setting around the events of the vid.) The thing that grabs me most about the vid is the artwork: I rarely look at Snarry artwork, because most of it, no matter how well-intentioned, portrays Harry as young-looking. The Harry in this vid, although recognizably Our Hero, is an *adult*. He's not just a Dan Radcliffe portrait (or taken from Mary GrandPré's artwork), either. He's a beautiful, original, grown-up Harry. Snape, likewise, looks like himself, but not a copy of existing models. The story itself is just lovely, in a poignant, sad way. The ending makes me sniffly (and it's not just this horrid cold). Sparsely told, but evocative. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Death Shall Have No Dominion

Fandom: BANDOM Pairing: Gerard/Patrick, background Mikey/Pete, past Bert/Gerard Length: 23,030 words Author on LJ: in_decisions & thejumpcutAuthor Website: n/a Why this must be read: Another Warped 2005 story but this one is very different from the one I recced earlier. This time it's Gerard and Patrick who're the main characters and the oblivious focus of their bandmates' scheming and plotting. There's a bit of everything in this story - fun and silly band interactions, dorky and awkward boys in love, thoughtful introspection, chaotic tour conditions - and the mood is light and happy with a dollop of seriousness to temper the sweetness. A wonderful story that never fails to put me in a good mood. ( Excerpt from the story... )The Blind Leading the Bands

Fandom: POPSLASH Pairing: gen Length: long Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: Backstreet Fan FictionWhy this must be read: This has been one of my favorite stories for a long time. The plot is pretty simple; while traveling on tour, back in earlier days, Brian and Nick find a dog and decide to keep it. The only problem is keeping it hidden from the rest of the group. This story isn't particularly flashy, but there are some truly wonderful group interactions. I've read this story countless times, and it grows on me every time. A Little Thing Called Puppy Love

Fandom: MICHAEL BIEHN CHARACTERS - Kyle Reese from Terminator Vidder: beltain Musical artist: Sissel Kyrkjebo and Espen Lind Pairing: Kyle Reese/Sarah Connor Vidder on LJ: don't know Vidder's website: I only know the you tube channel Ava's channel Why this vid kicks ass: Because it shows what to me is the heart of the Terminator story: the love between Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor. Reese fell in love with the 'Legend' before he ever saw her and came across time for her. His believe in her and his sacrificing love made her strong, made her fight, for their son and for mankind's future. And that's what this vid shows beautifully. Terminator Fan video

Vidder: Jescaflowne Musical artist: Starship Pairing: None Vidder on LJ: jescaflowneVidder's website: ElefantpawWhy this vid kicks ass:I picked this vid, a 2007 Vividcon premiere, as a no-brainer choice (I can't believe it hasn't been rec'd yet). It's entirely awesome, and it makes me feel bouncy and happy every time I watch it. Featuring Sparkle!Ronon!, Ass-Kickin' Teyla, John and Rodney competing for tile of King of the Dorks, and others. Plus, it thoroughly showcases Jess's editing skills--well-chosen effects and choice of cuts. When she was working on it, she referred to it as a Lord King Bad vid, but I feel no shame should be felt for re-packaging a cheesy '80s song in this way; it transcends the cheese factor into fannish greatness. *g* That ending shot of Atlantis makes me sigh every single time: ♥Atlantis♥.
