Title: Sailor Hellblazer!, by David Tai and Rod M. Pairing: gen Author on LJ: ? Author Website: ? Why this must be read: This is fanfic from a distinctly different set of fandom; before LJ, before ff.n, when it wasn't unusual to post fic with one's real name. It's interesting to compare the different conventions used, and-- Okay, it's Hellblazer crossed with Sailor Moon. It's ancient. It's weird. It's extremely long. And if you haven't read it, have you really read Hellblazer fic? :) Sailor Hellblazer!

Fandom: NUMB3RS Pairing: none Length: short Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: unknown Why this must be read:Every fandom has pivotal episodes that authors and readers return to again and again. The third season cliff-hanger, 'Janus List,' in which Colby Granger - corn-fed all American, military hero, straight-shooter, classic good guy Colby - is revealed as a traitor selling secrets to the Chinese, and the fourth season opener, 'Trust Metric' are those kinds of episodes.
'After Math' is a sequence of very short vignette's - part poetry, part evocative prose, part stream of consciousness - that explore Colby's thoughts after 'Trust Metric.' You really need to have seen the episodes, or at least to have read summaries, to understand.
It's too short to do an excerpt. Just read it. You won't be sorry.

Hello, I'm Topaz and I'll be your House fandom driver this month! As I was going through my list, I saw a loose theme emerge, of beginnings/endings, rather fitting for this last month of the year. Here we feature gen, slash, het, AU, crack--all you need to do is buckle up, sit back and enjoy the ride. Here's our first rec: Fandom: HOUSE Pairing: House/Wilson friendship Length: 2640 words Author on LJ: phinniaAuthor Website: Author's memories on LJWhy this must be read:This is a simply haunting fic about House and Wilson on a visit to Antarctica. Phinnia's descriptions are gorgeously evocative; she makes the landscape come alive, as Wilson attempts to fathom the unfathomable. This fic is one of a handful that stuck with me long after I read it. ( Excerpt: )Extreme Weather

The Avengers was a classic British spy series that ran from 1961-1969. Over those years, it evolved a lot, starting out as gritty and realistic and ending up as the campiest thing that ever camped, a treasure trove of absurd plots, witty banter and delightful innuendo (the latter two often went hand-in-hand). The one constant was Patrick Macnee, as John Steed. ( The Characters )
Fandom Resources:
The Avengers Forever: Though it's no longer actively updated, this enormous and enormously helpful website is every Avengers fan's Bible.
_the_avengers -- not quite active, but not quite dead, either, which is more than can be said for other Avengers LJ comms.
There's also a fairly active Avengers section on FF.net, but be wary, as it is, after all, FF.net. There are definitely some gems, though!

Hi all. I'm delighted to be your guide to the wonderful world of Primeval this month! We're a small fandom, but there's a humungous amount of fabulous fic out there. So here goes . . . Fandom: PRIMEVAL Pairing: Stephen/Ryan (slash) Length: Three-parter (about 8,000 words all-in) Author on LJ: fredbassettAuthor Website: None – check LJ masterlist for stories Why this must be read:Fredbassett writes the most awesome fic – she plots like a dream, her action scenes are 'read through the fingers' ones, and the Stephen/Ryan sex is damned hot! Endangered Species is a three-parter which really sets up her Stephen and Ryan universe. Endangered Species part 1 Endangered Species part 2 Endangered Species part 3

Fandom: THE AVENGERS Characters: Steed, Emma Length: 7,091 words Author on LJ: lydiabellAuthor Website: unknown Why this must be read:Because it could seriously be a lost episode. Steed and Emma are both wonderfully in character, and the zany plot is very much in keeping with the series, engaging OC mastermind and all. Also, it is one of the best Avengers gen fics I've read to date -- the fandom is heavily shippy, so good, IC, just-like-the-show gen fic is rare. The thing I like most about this story, though, is the plot's progression. The story opens with a routine kidnapping and ends with...well, I won't spoil, but suffice to say it's far from routine, and thus perfectly Avengers. ( Excerpt )Cryptic

I'm unknown20troper, and I'm driving the crack_van for Fairly OddParents, since I was dismayed by the lack of recs for it when I discovered this community. My favourite character is Norm the Genie, and I'm a multi-shipper that mostly likes - loves - slash. My recs will reflect that to an extent, though I will rec fanfics that are neither Norm the Genie or slash-based, of course. Fandom: FAIRLY ODDPARENTS Character: Norm the Genie Length: 627 words Author on LJ: She doesn't have one. Author Website: x-Oscena-x @ FF.NetWhy this must be read:
Because Norm's Story got me into my Norm the Genie obsession. Another reason is that it keeps Norm the Genie in character while showing a more sympathetic side to him. Another reason is that it's the set-up for Wishes, one of the best Norm the Genie fanfics ever (which is a WIP, unfortunately so I can't recommend it). Another reason is that it inspired one of my fanfics; got me wondering about what happened in his past - Norm's Story is vague about the specific events, but that works well stylistically for it.
