Fandom: Raffles, the Amateur Cracksman
Pairing: A.J. Raffles/Bunny Manders
Length About 1,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mcicioni
Why this fic must be read: This is a missing scene from "Chest of Silver," the Yorkshire television version of the story. This scene begged for a fanfic writer to take things just a bit further; fortunately [livejournal.com profile] mcicioni did just that. I'm also including a Youtube link so you can see just what I mean. For mid-70s British television, the scene is incredibly slashy. And quite frankly, nobody has been able to explain to me why Raffles has a dressing gown stashed at Bunny's place!

A clip from Chest of Silver in which Bunny is adorably in his cups and Raffles looks at him oh, so tenderly …

10:19 am You Can Imagine the Christmas Dinners by ardenteurophile (R)
Merry Christmas! The theme for today is... sort of obvious. ^_^

Fandom: SHERLOCK
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Length: 24,000ish words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ardenteurophile
Author Website: Fic Master List
Why this must be read:
At the end of the episode A Study in Pink, Mycroft comments to Doctor Watson "you can imagine the Christmas dinners" between himself and Sherlock and we get a gloriously appalled look from John. I credit this scene with the plethora of Christmas-meet-the-family fics in this fandom and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. *ahem*

This story is a fabulous John-goes-to-Christmas-dinner-with-the-Holmes-family with the added bonus of the plot revolving around how Mycroft and mummy and everyone seems to think that John and Sherlock are already a couple. Sort of. Anyway, it's a cute read, particularly for this holiday season. Enjoy!

Fandom: RIPTIDE
Pairing: Nick Ryder/Cody Allen
Length: 1600 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tnl
Author Website: Author tag on Pier 56
Why this must be read:
This is a Christmas story, and also the awesome culmination of Cody finally admitting to himself and to Nick just exactly what it is he really wants. Plus, it's illustrated :) Who doesn't want beautiful pictures for Christmas?

[livejournal.com profile] tnl makes an excellent job of two guys who know each other better than they know anything or anybody else trying to talk about their feelings. Sex gets in the way: they're boys, and it's awesomely done--but what's important is addressed. Their need for each other is, as always, true and clear, and this is an excellent picture of how things get in the way. It's a brilliant interpretation of Cody (also of Nick, but tnl does a beautiful complicated!Cody which is extremely dear to my heart).

And like I said: Pictures!

Fandom: SHERLOCK
Pairing: John+Sherlock (ambiguous)
Length: 16,500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] r_scribbles
Author Website: It appears to be broken, but more can be found rummaging through their LJ.
Why this must be read:
I love this story. We get a complex background for Sherlock and his relationship angst, we get a rather awesome young Mycroft, and we get a John who is just amazingly awesomely spectacularly the best friend to Sherlock EVER. This is, to me, the penultimate John-meets-the-family fic, with family angst and love and everything. This has some dark themes implied in it like underage rape, but it also has cutely fluffy pretend!sex in Welsh. Yes. I want to cuddle this story so much. I highly, highly recommend it.

06:29 pm Ten Snapshots of a Kidnapping, by mardia (PG)
Fandom: CHUCK
Pairing: Bryce/Chuck
Length: one-shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mardia
Author Website: Chuck fic tag
Why this must be read: Told in ten snapshots (hence the title), this is the story of how Bryce kidnapped Chuck when he found out about Casey's order to kill Chuck at the end of season one.

The story is told in a sparse, pointed writing style. In that, it's almost lyrical, while at the same time keeping true to the tone of the show and the general geekiness of Bryce and Chuck. It's just a fun read all around.

11:02 pm don't look in the mirror, darling, you don't know who you'll see, by snowdarkred (PG-13)
Fandom: The Losers
Pairing: girl!Jensen/Cougar
Length: 1095
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] snowdarkred
Author's Website: Snowdarkred on Fanfiction.net

Why this must be read:
Losers fandom loves the idea of always-a-girl!Jensen, giving us all the issues of being a woman in the military while also giving us someone we can identify with just a little more. The ability to identify with her must be why there's more girl!Jensen than girl!anybody else (in fact, just doing a count based on what I've seen in the fandom, we have 8 girl!Jensens, 3 girl!Cougars, 1 girl!Roque and 1 girl!Pooch).

This story is the start of a delightful series, built of wonderful little vignettes that get inside the team, how they feel, how they are, and how the relationship between Jocelyn Jensen and Cougar develops. It's not an epic romance, it's not explosions and high drama, but it is utterly brilliant.

Excerpt:
They gave her to the Losers because they had nothing else to do with her. She talked too much, and she knew more than her superior officers, and she didn't know when not to let those two cross. She embarrassed them in front of the men, and no matter how many 'lessons' they tried to pound into her, she never slowed down, never stopped, never stayed in what they saw as her place. She was too skilled to simply get rid of, and she was too stubborn to quit.

Nobody was as stubborn as a Jensen woman. They were born with ice in their veins.

11:35 pm Five Places Claudia Donovan Never Called Home by minkhollow (G)
Fandom: Warehouse 13/Eureka/Sneakers/,Iron Man/Percy Jackson and the Olympians/Doctor Who
Length: 3554
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] minkhollow

Why this must be read:
Minkhollow is a master at crossovers. In this fic you discover 4 places that Claudia never lived and 1 place she didn't go after the season 1 finale. Each AU is a perfect little world unto its self. Minkhollow also has Claudia describe The Doctor as Unfortunate Bow Tie Dude. If that doesn't make you want to read this then really, there's no hope. :)

FYI: AO3 is a little slow this holiday season due to increased traffic. Hit refresh a couple times if it crashes. That usually does the trick.

Fandom: RIPTIDE
Pairing: Nick Ryder/Cody Allen
Length: 2000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] oddmonster
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] riptide_asylum
Why this must be read: This is an AU fic. But not just any AU fic: a SPACE PIRATES AU fic! And it is awesome. Hilarious and poignant by turns, oddmonster brings her not inconsiderable skill to describing a holiday from Murray's planet... Wikkmas :) There are many strange traditions, but: "Your holiday celebrates home invasion?" Nick asked.

And, if that's not enough? Cody gets new space-leathers. White ones.
