12:39 am After the Music by Gemmi999, Gen
Fandom: BANDOM
Pairing: Brent Wilson/Random people, het and slash, but mostly Gen
Length: 21000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] gemmi999
Author Website: Gemmi999 on AO3
Why this must be read: This is a wonderful read on what happens to people after they've been kicked out of their band. Or even left.

It's how they get on with their lives, but are still affected by what they did.

I think Gemmi gives a very fair character driven piece about a band member of Panic! At the Disco that was kicked on and had to suddenly move on with his life in the realm of what we consider normal.

Even if you don't like Brent Wilson, please give it a chance. I think you'll surprise yourself on how much you like it, I know I did.

Warnings: As summary notes, this fic contains character death of a major character!!
Why this must be read:

Summary: When Rodney is killed, Sheppard has to find a way to live.

This fic broke me, bottom line. It's one of the most vivid, brutal, and raw portrayals of grief I've ever read, in any fandom actually. What Kodiak Bear puts John, and the rest of Atlantis, through in the aftermath of Rodney's death makes me wince now, months after initially reading it. After having to watch Rodney sucked dry by a Wraith and only being able to watch as the Wraith draw out the death/torture, John tries to deal with the traumatic images the ordeal leaves him with and with the subtle reminders of Rodney that still exist around Atlantis. This fic will tear you up, then begin to stitch you back together with the final scene. Don't miss this classic example of the depth of the writing field in Stargate fandom and of Kodiak's sheer talent for emotional writing.

02:14 pm Beautiful by Candy (Rating: R)
What ho, fangirls and fanboys! I'm Storyfan, and I'll be taking the wheel this month in honor of Donald Strachey Mysteries. My dear friend [livejournal.com profile] nyteflyer will provide a pimp for this marvelous fandom, but I thought I'd get the engine started with a story by our fandom's most prolific writer — and one of my favorites!

Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES — movie!verse
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: About 3,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] candyjbshsc
Author's website and masterlist: On Squidge

Why this must be read: Anything Candy writes is worth a close read. She's got characterization down pat, and she puts our boys through the wringer but brings them out of it, stronger and better for the experience. In this story, a battered and bruised Donald meets Timothy for the first time.

04:03 pm Something about Toads by Pyrebi (PG-13)
Greetings, SPN readers! I'm Lacey, and I'm taking another turn at the wheel of the Impala, which means mostly Dean/Castiel and gen recs. Hope you enjoy the ride!

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Dean/Castiel (minor)
Length: ~3200 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pyrebi
Author Website: Fanfiction tag on LJ
Why this must be read: There's something about a fairytale that makes me smile. This one is no exception: it involves Dean and one very persistent toad who's hiding a secret. Yes, it's cracktastic, but it's self-consciously so, and it works well in this case. Sometimes Dean's life really is this bizarre. Just a note: the story steps outside of canon, but think of it as how Castiel might come into Dean and Sam's lives under other circumstances. And, of course, there's a happy ending, which is something we all need more of, right?

So it starts with this toad, okay? )

06:44 pm Dinning on Pluto by Vermin-disciple (9+)
Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: Gen but hints of Gene/Sam and mentions of Gene/Missus
Length: One-Shot
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] vermin_disciple
Author website: Fic List

Why this must be read:

It shows how truly intelligent Gene is, sometimes he can be portrayed as an idiot compaired to Sam but his strength lies in his understanding of people. In this fic his view on a subject that would normally be seen as more Sam's area (Greek mythology) reveals how much he really does know and understand people and their motivation showing a view that Sam had never even considered.

It also has some lovely banter that is very 2x07, beautifully in character and shows a real warmth between the two of them despite their bickering.

Why this must be read:

Several of the fics I wanted to rec this month are ones I just find completely hilarious, and this fic never fails to make me laugh. I don't know how many times I've read it, but I start giggling every single time.

Kirk finds one of those romance novel generators, and he fills it out, and presents the results to Spock. And to McCoy.

Kirk. Romance novel generators. Lady Spock and Lady McCoy. What's not to love?
