Another one of my favourites, this was written as a birthday fic for toomuchfandom, who absolutely loved it. One of Ashleigh’s more steamy fics, but as always so full of the love evident between the two men. As the recipient, toomuchfandom said “made me... love Jethro even more. He may be a bastard but he's sweet, and a real teddybear.” The setup is just great, with Ducky needing a little help from his friend when the power goes out at his and his mother’s Reston home. Ashleigh’s Mrs. Mallard is a joy to read every time. She’s ‘not as green as she’s cabbage looking’! First time, slash.

The boys’ voices are spot on, the scenes easy to imagine. There are so many choice lines in this that I’m having trouble picking an extract... so I’m going to go with this one, Jethro knows best.

Why this must be read:

Like much of channeld's stuff this is a real comfort read. Good for those days when you've had a row with the boss, or taken the cat to the vet or can't face getting out of bed. The characterisation is - innovative. There are some echoes of their canon selves but on the whole you may feel you're meeting the characters for the first time. Illya with a pony tail for instance...

It's an AU tale set after the boys' field careers are over and they're in an established relationship. The story focuses on the development of the relationship at a key point for them. Mushy, happy endings all round!

The mice slip in just as he closes the door, and Gerard eyes the outfit the birds are laying out on his bed. "Black and grey, today, huh? What, you think I'm getting boring or something?"

The birds flutter around while Gerard drinks his coffee and finishes his cigarette. They always seem to know which clothes on the floor are - not clean, but less dirty than the others. Gerard doesn't know how, because he can never figure it out himself, but it's pretty fucking sweet.

The mice are doing something on his dresser and Gerard looks over. Oh, for - "I just showered, like, three days ago."

The mice shake the shampoo bottle at him a little violently, and as if he's not getting the fucking hint, the birds drop a towel into his lap.

Hutch stood in the kitchen, facing the living room.

Starsky lay flat on his back on the old brown sofa: mouth agape and snoring loudly, legs twisted in the old hand-knit afghan, arms flung up over his head. His hair was a mess, uncombed and tangled, curling about his face with wild abandon. The ratty plaid shirt he wore was--barely--buttoned once, just across his belly, completely exposing the red longjohns he insisted upon wearing day and night. Candy apple red longjohns. Flesh-skimming longjohns. Skintight longjohns. Put a white racing stripe on them and Starsky would be the fastest motor on the road.

Strip them off and Starsky would be the fastest motor in this cabin.
